You will be successful in your role if you are as ambitious as we are about beating blood cancers. THE OPPORTUNITY The United Kingdom has made significant contributions in the design and delivery of late phase trials in blood cancers, but its track record in early phase trials has been modest. A major reason underlining this has been the absence of co-ordinated trials with a large enough catchment areas to allow rapid recruitment to early phase trials. Leukaemia & Lymphoma Research’s response to this need has been the creation of the Trials Acceleration Programme (TAP): a network of resourced world-class blood cancer centres serving major metropolitan areas across the UK with a combined catchment area in excess of 20 million. A key innovation of TAP is that the network is supported by a central hub in Birmingham, which provides dedicated, expert trial management. Since July 2011, Leukaemia & Lymphoma Research has entered 12 new trials into TAP and many more are in the pipeline.
