WELCOME ANDREW GROVE
Goulburn Golf Club professional the very
next day. On the following day (Saturday
29 August), having coped with a
significant weather event, Andrew started
the Saturday competitions as if he had
always been doing it.
Welcome back, Andrew. And, not only
Andrew, but his wife, Rebecca and their
children, Chelsea and Tyler. We look
forward to a long and happy association.

NAMES
SCORES
It is with great pleasure that we welcome
our new professional, Andrew Grove.
Andrew was the successful applicant for
the position and is no stranger to Goulburn
Golf Club. He was trainee professional
under Chris Travers in 2003. He moved to
the Gold Coast where he spent 10 years
working in the golf industry. He returned
to Goulburn in 2014 and worked in
Canberra at Pete’s Golf Connection until
Thursday 27 August. Like a true
professional, he commenced work as the

RESULTS
&
CLUB
The Ladies v Men was all woe for the men.
We had 20 players; they only had 12. We
gave them 4 of ours to even it out. The
matches were 8 apiece at the finish of the day
so we went to stableford points and the ladies
won by 2. The winners for the ladies were
Gail Moroney & Prue Gutzeit 45pts c/b and
Dave Foster & Graham Nesbitt 44pts for the
men on a c/b from Margot Owen and Annette
Smith who played for the males.
MEDAL
Wednesday

B – P Morris 74n
C – G Kennerley 75n
Saturday
A – Tracey Norberg 69n
B – Mary Wright 75n
Two congratulations are in order. Firstly, to
our club GNSW Medal winners Debbie
Collins, Chris Besley and Mary Wright. The
win qualifies them to play in the District Final
to be held at Queanbeyan on November 2nd.
Welcome to new member Gail Kennerley.
Gail has returned to golf after a long absence
without losing too much form. We predict
she will soon be moving quickly down the
handicap ladder.
The weather has not been kind to us in August
with one day’s play cancelled and another
where we had 37 starters with 15 finishing
but we are looking forward to a big day for
our annual First National Real Estate
sponsored 3 person Stabrose. To be held on
September 16, it is a very popular event and
14 teams from district clubs have already
registered.
The ladies would like to welcome our new
Club Professional Andrew Grove. We hope
you have a long and prosperous time with our
club.
CAPTAIN BILL’S REPORT
From the unbelievable bank:
I thought that the old GIO salesman was the
worst offender, but when a former committee
man (and scratch golfer) puts in his, sorry,
vice-president’s stableford points instead of
his stroke, what chance have we got? Thanks
“J”. He was one of 3 on a Thursday last
month.
GENTLEMEN: I use that term loosely. I had
a complaint from a member of the public who
regularly uses May Street as a working and
walking area. If you find the urgent need to
“go”, be aware of your surroundings. It is
technically a criminal offence to flash your
‘willy’ even when caught short. She
described one member, enough to identify
him, (no not the offending part), was
struggling to see same. So, a bit of
decorum/modesty/thought, please!
Thanks to all members using carts, bikes,
scooters etc. for keeping off the fairways. For
those who do not keep up with the weather, it
has stopped the mowing of the fairways for
over 7 weeks. And now that we have had
some (albeit welcome) rain, please
understand that wheeled, motorized vehicles
driving on saturated ground do cause
damage.
Thanks to Darran and his team for a great job!
We have had a few discussions recently about
pin placements, bunkers etc. and we should
see an improvement. If you have a legitimate
complaint about the course, the first place of
contact is the manager or myself, to pass on
to management, not the green staff. The
course staff are employees under Robbie’s
control and should not be approached with
complaints.
I am out of here for a bit of a break. I am
hoping to get to the top of Australia.
See you in late September.

BIRDIES’ BISTRO
Reminder:
Fathers’ Day is fast approaching so why not take Dad or Hubby out to Birdies Bistro on
Sunday September 6. We will be having a two course special for $25 a head. To start
there will be a classic Prawn Cocktail followed by a 250g Rump Steak served with chips
& salad & your choice of sauce. Our normal bistro menu will also be available. Bookings

(For younger members, that means additional to content in the first print)
Manager Rob advises that Goulburn Mulwaree Council has purchased the New South
Wales Golf Championships for the next three years. The winner of this event will gain
entry to the New South Wales Open. The first event will be run on the 29 th and 30th
October 2016. All members and guests are cordially invited to attend. This event attracts
top class golfers as the handicap cut-off is 9.4.
So, sharpen up your game, guys!
FEDEX CUP
Exciting times! Two rounds left and Jason Day and Matt Jones are in form. No
tournament this week but the BMW (17 – 20 September) and the Tour Championship
(24 – 27 September) promise great viewing. Time to get the younger members of the
family barracking for our Aussie champs and getting them keen on the game.
