AP World History Project/Presentation Mr. Bixon 1945-present: Global Conflict, Decolonization, Revolution, and Globalization Background: The last half of the 20th century has been defined by Global Conflict, Decolonization, Revolution and Globalization. The impact of the Cold War between the superpowers impacted countries attempting to gain independence after the Second World War politically and economically resulting sometimes in violent transformations. This has also led to global connections that resulted in globalization with political, economic, cultural, and even environmental consequences. Purpose: To identify and analyze examples of Global Conflict, Decolonization, Revolution, and Globalization around the world between 1945 and the present Procedure: 1. You will work with one other person (exception – one group of 3) 2. You and your partner will be assigned a region of the world the Americas Europe (Western and Eastern) East Asia South Asia North Africa Middle East/SoWest Asia Subsaharan Africa 3. Research the region using the textbooks and some outside info (but start with the textbooks!) a. Find events that represent at least one of the following: Global Conflict, Decolonization, Revolution, and Globalization 4. Create a powerpoint or prezi or… that includes ALL of the following: a. Origins or causes of the events b. Major or key moments during the event(s) c. Results/Consequences/Effects (immediate and long-term) d. 4 of the 5 SPICE World History themes (see next page) identified and explained in relation to your event (For example: Political causes, Cultural effects, Interaction between humans or with the environment during the event…) *Do NOT forget DATES!* *DUE Monday, April 7th* 5. Presentation (on Monday, April 7th): View each other’s powerpoints beforehand (and after to prepare for the exam in May), so they are ready for your presentation and a MC quiz in class (same day after the presentations). The presentation should be 4-6 minutes max and be an interactive activity, artifact*, or a visual that helps comprehend, analyse, or at least be related to your powerpoint or prezi. This is also a chance to answer/ask each other questions if something was unclear in the powerpoint. For example, a clip from a movie or a documentary, an excerpt from a document or speech, a brief discussion of an illustration, cartoon, song; some sort of an interactive activity (no crossword puzzles or MC questions or “note-taking” activities). The artifact must be related to at least one of the events in your powerpoint presentation. You must provide a picture or some other visual image of the artifact if you don’t have the actually item.
