Good Clean Game Update The first season of the ‘Good Clean Game’ program was completed in March with a successful round of competitions for the participating summer tenants. We are pleased to announce that a total of $2,700 worth of prizes have been awarded throughout the program thus far and would like to congratulate the following major prize winners from the summer round of competitions: Good Clean Club Competition (Based on adherence to program requirements) 1st Place: Footscray Baseball Club (McIvor Reserve) - $500 Voucher 2nd Place: Sunshine YCW Cricket Club (Kindersmith Reserve) - $200 Voucher 3rd Place: Footscray ANA Cricket Club and Kingsville Baptist Cricket Club (Angliss Reserve) – $100 Voucher Recycling Quiz (Drawn at random) - Bruce Kay (Sunshine Druids CC) – $300 Voucher Competitions will be launched to all participating Winter Clubs from 25 May and all leased Clubs will be invited to join the program shortly. Inside the Braybrook Community Hub One of Council’s largest projects, Braybrook Community Hub, was completed in March 2015. Councillor Initiative: Hansen Reserve Coaches Box Replacement Tenant Clubs: North Footscray Football Club and Yarraville Club Cricket Club Status: Completed – March 2015 Project Cost: $17,340 Scope: Disposal of existing coaches’ box and installation of two new coaches boxes on concrete slabs. Before After Rosamond Bowling Club Fence Upgrade - Tenant Club: Rosamond Bowling Club Status: Completed – March 2015 Project Cost: $15,000 Scope: Removal and disposal of wooden fence and installation of new chain mesh fence. Before Central Control Irrigation System Installation Tenant Clubs: Various - 10 sites across municipality. Status: In Progress Project Cost: $120,000 Scope: Installation of central control system that will control irrigation across sports grounds. This will improve the reliability, efficiency and sustainability of irrigation systems. After Goal Post Renewal Program Tenant Club: Various Status: Completed – April 2015 Project Cost: $58,450 Scope: Goal Post upgrade at 9 sporting reserves including Pennell Reserve, Shorten Reserve, Hansen Reserve, Kindersmith Reserve, Skinner Reserve, Dobson Reserve, Henry Turner North Reserve, Yarraville Oval and McIvor Reserve. Dobson Reserve Floodlight Upgrade Tenant Club: Melbourne Knights Soccer Club Status: Commencing May 2015 Project Cost: $107,000 (inclusive of Club contribution) Scope: Installation of two new floodlight towers and upgrade of current light fittings to reach minimum of 100 lux lighting level. Club Resource Centre Show the Money: Information The Clubme Resource Centre willGrant provide your Club with helpful information and links on a range of important topics that will assist in your Club’s operations. Launch of the Active Maribyrnong Grants Program! The Active Maribyrnong Grants program is now open! The program will provide 75% of junior membership fees (up to $200) to any junior participant who meets the following criteria; Be 6–18 years of age Want to play or be playing at a sports club within Maribyrnong And: 1. Hold a family Health Care or Pension Card Or 2. Be a new junior female member of a sports club within Maribyrnong Please remember to return you Sports Club Registration Form to Council as soon as possible otherwise your club will be ineligible to receive grant applicants. Maribyrnong wins at Parks and Leisure Australia (Vic/Tas) 2015 Awards of Excellence Council’s Recreation Team has won the Inclusive and Connected Communities Award at the Parks and Leisure Australia (Vic/Tas) Awards of Excellence. This was a hotly contested category with entrants from Moreland, Maroondah, Warrnambool and Wyndham City Councils. Our winning entry was for the ‘Maribyrnong/Moonee Valley Community Cricket Cup Event’ held earlier this year at McIvor Reserve. Maribyrnong partnered with Moonee Valley City Council and a number of community partners to run the event that attracted over 500 participants. Our entry will now automatically be submitted into the Parks and Leisure Australia National Awards being held in Sydney this October. Cricket Under Lights – A Footscray ANA First Hard work pays off for Druids! Footscray ANA Cricket Club held a Family Day with a twist at Angliss Reserve on March 1. The Club put together an intra-club tournament which featured 6 teams of 7 players a side. Each team played 6 overs per innings and 2 round robin games each before a Club first took place with a Grand Final played under lights – even using zing bails that light up when struck. The day was extremely successful for the Club and enjoyed by all in attendance! Photo: Sunshine Druids Sunshine Druid’s junior program has gathered momentum with the Club fielding an u11 team (pictured above) again this past season. The team, which is based at Shorten Reserve and plays matches at nearby Footscray West Primary School, has come together over the past two seasons as part of the Clubs growing focus on their junior program. Travis Dean signs with Victorian Bushrangers Footscray Edgewater Cricket Club’s number 3 batsman Travis Dean has signed a 2 year deal with the Victorian Bushrangers!
