SUMMARY OF COUNCIL MEETING HELD ON 26TH JANUARY 2015, London It was agreed that, because the CDI Board and Council were reviewing the governance structures of CDI, Karen O’Donoghue would remain as President until the annual conference in November 2015, Laura Bell would remain as a Director and Monica I Lemecha would remain as Honorary Secretary until the next AGM. Elections for these posts would take place during the summer of 2015. 1. CHIEF EXECUTIVE’S REPORT i) CDI’s profitability was ahead of target and a new accounting package linked to the CDI membership database plus additional staff resource had brought about greater financial efficiency. ii) Membership was steadily increasing and stood at 4130 compared to 3492 in 2104 while membership of the Register was 1038 which was ¼ of the membership. CDI had increased the range of qualifications that are acceptable for registration. iii) The CDI Provider Directory and Job Board were new initiatives welcomed by Council. The Provider Directory can be used by individuals and organisations to source career development services across the UK and the Job Board will show all jobs in the sector as well as allowing members to up-load their cvs. 2. PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT UP-DATE. I) Significant progress was being made with the Career Development Sector Career Progression Pathway. The paper would be placed on the CDI website and in the April edition of Career Matters for member consultation. ii) The National Occupational Standards had been approved in November 2014 and were now being used to develop products for employers as well as support the revision of training for managers and to validate professional training courses for the sector. iii) Several new programmes had been added to the CDI annual training plan. iv) The Professional Standards Committee had approved the CDI Discipline and Complaints Procedure which would now sit alongside the CDI Code of Ethics. 3. YOUR LIFE CAMPAIGN This is a campaign spearheaded by the Association of Colleges championing women into technology and engineering careers. Council agreed actions that CDI could undertake to support this campaign. 1 4 UP-DATE FROM COMMUNITIES OF INTEREST AND REGIONS. i) Career Education: a planning group had devised a CPD programme which was on the CDI website including an annual conference in June 2015. Career educators to be surveyed in April regarding member needs and a new category of school membership is being considered by the CDI Board. ii) Talent Management: webinars were being developed for delivery in March 2015. iii) Wales: four professional practise conferences had been held with all receiving very positive evaluations. A re-organisation in Wales coupled with budget reductions would have an impact on Welsh membership of CDI. CDI membership sub-groups were being explored to maintain contacts. iv) Eastern region: a well attended meeting had been held in Cambridge in December. v) Career Guidance for Young People: a meeting was held at the end of March with jenny Bimrose as guest speaker. Prospects to present ‘the model library’ as a practical tool for practitioners. vi) Adults: a membership strategy to be devised. vii) NW Region: potential for joint working with UNISON is being explored. viii) Member survey: this had highlighted the interest for a meeting to be held in Leeds. Council were asked to submit to HQ what they considered would be key unique selling points to attracting people to join CDI. HQ would assist Council reps in establishing sub groups in their regions. 5. CDI ELECTION MANIFESTO Council considered a draft manifesto and proposed additions. The draft Manifesto to be sent to David Andrews the CDI Politics and Policy Associate for refining and distribution to members and key individuals and organisations. 6. ANNUAL CONFERENCE The 2015 annual conference to be held at the Mercure Hotel, Cardiff on 9th and 10th November. Monica I Lemecha Honorary Secretary 27th May 2015 2
