Administration Update
The parent survey (English and Spanish versions) has been

It will continue to be open until May, 2015. We encourage our
parents to visit the website and complete the survey. This
provides valuable information that helps us to plan for
improvements that supports your child’s learning.

your child’s assessment dates and times listed

Cox Hero: Emily Quiroz is our Cox Hero for
School Year 2014-2015. She is the daughter of Ms.
Ruth Ramirez and Mr. Oscar Quiroz. The annual
Inspirational Student Hero Recognition Awards is
sponsored by Cox Communications. Through this
program Cox recognizes inspirational students who
have shown great fortitude by successfully adapting
to and/or conquering personal problems, challenges
or situations. Emily enrolled in school in late
September 2014. She came to Florosa from Mexico
and did not speak any English. She quickly adjusted
to her new life at school and is rapidly learning
English. She is very pleasant and never complains.
She has developed many new friendships. She is
eager to learn and works very hard.
Florosa’s Book Fair
Thank you to all of the parents that supported our
Book Fair. We had good attendance on Family
Night and a nice participation for the Book and
Breakfast event. We hope that all that attended
these events enjoyed them and found them
beneficial.
Ms. Howell’s Fabulous FAB group read the book How to
Eat Fried Worms about some boys that make a bet to
eat one worm every day for fifteen days. The group
celebrated at the end of the story by eating gummy
worms.

KINDERGARTEN REGISTRATION
FOR 2015-2016
Parents of children who will be 5 years old on or before
September 1, 2015, are asked to register their children for
2015-2016 kindergarten during the period of March 2-20 and
March 30–April 3. School staff may not be working March
23-27 due to Spring Break. Florida law provides that any
child who will be 5 on or before September 1 st is eligible for
kindergarten that school year. It is extremely important that
new kindergarten students be registered beginning March 2
for the fall (August) school opening. Classes will be formed,
teachers assigned, and materials ordered on the basis of
student enrollment.
Registration for kindergarten may be completed at any time
during the regular school day at the school zoned for the
child’s neighborhood. To complete the registration process,
parents must present proof of the child’s age (birth certificate),
a Florida certificate of immunization, a social security card,
and a school physical dated no later than twelve months prior
to the first day of school. Further information may be
obtained by calling the schools or Curriculum and Instruction
at 850-833-4208.
SUMMER VPK REGISTRATION FOR 2015
Parents who wish to register their children for the Summer
VPK Program are also requested to enroll their child at this
time. Florida law provides that any child who turned 5 on or
before September 1, 2015 and is eligible to attend
kindergarten in the 2015-2016 school year and did not attend
VPK during the current 2014-2015 school year is eligible to
attend Summer VPK. For Summer VPK enrollment, parents
must provide proof of Florida residency in addition to the
registration items listed above. To register for Summer VPK,
a certificate of eligibility must be obtained from the Early
Learning Coalition at 107 Tupelo Avenue, FWB: Phone
number 850-833-9330, or the Early Learning Coalition at 10
S. 4th Street, DeFuniak Springs: Phone number 850-892-8560.
Summer VPK sites will be Southside Center (Crestview area),
and Edwins Elementary, in the South area, enrollment
permitting. Parent transportation must be provided for
Summer VPK students. Further information for Summer VPK
enrollment may be obtained by calling Ms. Gloria Mayo,
Early Learning Coalition Program Director, at 850-833-3627
