Call to Order
Rachel Bergman, Chair Pro-tem called meeting to order at 12:35 PM.

Minutes from the November 13, 2013 approved as written by acclamation

Deans’ Reports
Report Given by Bill Reader
 There are ten 10 good candidates on the Provost Search
 There is a School of Art and Design event February 8th
Report given by Linda Miller
 The Directors met yesterday
They discussed participation in getting info for GMU to become a Carnegie
Engagement University. We are asking each unit to report how we may be
engaged with the community and that will be included in response to
making the university an engaged community
 We will host a recognition event for freshmen and sophomores on March 20
at 4pm GT III Invitations will be sent to students. We are doing this for
retention.








An issue with class cancellation: faculty must arrange for absences to find a
cover in an emergency
Please take as many students as you can and thank you for that!
CFA Passworks - we need students who would be involved with this, please
work with directors to find students for this initiative. (added later in the
meeting, inserted in report)

We have 36 new graduate students, perhaps two more after the past few
days
The admissions process will stay with us - working through Stevie Otto we
are processing applications internally
A result of doing internal things - websites need to be coordinated including
dates for admissions, "self-managed" - early applicants are considered for
financial assistance
Grad coordinators, April 16 is the next Graduate Colloquy on Arts and
Education - community education, lighting presentations and then a
discussion period. If you have any ideas please contact Vicki

Standing Committees
Curriculum, Ed Gero, Chair
 The Committee is in a quandary - Ed Gero is not able to be chair. We
need a tenured faculty member to volunteer as Buffy is on leave.
 Jim Carroll moved to accept by acclimation. Tom Owens moved to
approve, the faculty voted to accept Jim.

Space Committee, Linda Miller Chair
 The instructional space committee met - these are updates:
 Film and Video Studies will use 3019 as a lab classroom space
 Music will be changed as a space for FAVS; video editing, etc.,
recommendation to form a working group (headed by Julie), a way
to combine university space for best usage

for participants
There will be discussion around our new center, February 4, Library,
9 AM
Linda Miller announced that Dean Vicki Salmon is retiring. Thank
