ACE UK welcomes new targets in
Dairy Roadmap Sustainability Report
ACE UK, which represents Tetra Pak, Elopak, and SIG Combibloc, the leading manufacturers of paperbased beverage cartons for the UK market, has welcomed the new Dairy Roadmap Environmental
Sustainability Report* – and the targets it contains for the beverage carton industry.
The Roadmap has brought together the whole UK dairy supply chain – farmers, food manufacturers and
retailers –to agree a broad programme with hard, time-bound environmental sustainability targets.
The beverage carton industry, through ACE UK, is a member of the Dairy Roadmap Taskforce, and has set its
own new target. In welcoming the report, Richard Hands, Chief Executive of ACE UK, comments: “Our new
Roadmap target is to ensure that, by 2015, at least 80% of dairy carton packages carry the Forest Stewardship
Council (FSC) label, demonstrating that the fibre used to make the package has been sourced from
responsibly-managed forests.
“We are happy to sign up to this commitment, alongside the ultimate aim of having 100% of carton packages
in dairy carrying the FSC label by 2020. We will be working closely with our customers and the retailers to
achieve this.
“The sustainable use of renewable resources has a vital part to play in reducing carbon in the supply chain
and, in the case of forests, providing habitat and improving biodiversity. The FSC logo on the package is the
hallmark of responsible forest management and traceability, giving assurance that the highest environmental
standards are being applied.”
