PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE
Happy New Year! The mission statement of the Cornwall Historical
Society is “to preserve, educate and promote the history of Cornwall, Cornwallon-Hudson, Mountainville and the surrounding areas.” A recent visitor to our
museum, in a conversation, commented that, “History is people.” That phrase
struck me as quite meaningful.
The Historical Society’s history for 2015, included several people I’d like to
thank for their service.
Colette Fulton stepped down as Vice President in 2015. She was a
founding mother of the Society and served as its first president. Fortunately for
us, Colette is remaining on our Board of Trustees and continues to assist
everyone with her encyclopedic knowledge of Cornwall.
Tristan Laurion served as Treasurer from the Society’s inception. Tris
is one of the most honorable people I know. I’m glad that this founding father
is remaining as a Trustee.
Peg McGinnis, our esteemed Secretary decided to step down this
year. Peg kept meticulous minutes, which now serve as an accurate accounting
of our Society’s history.
Chick Jurgens served on the Board of Trustees for as long as I can
remember. With Chick’s assistance, the Society was able to transform one
large room at Town Hall, into a museum and functioning office.
Bob Schwarzler served the Society as President while serving our country
in the US Air National Guard. Bob’s even handed management skills kept the
Society balanced and focused. His contributions are many, including the
Student Intern Program, the 4th of July floats and his success in securing
interesting speakers. I’m happy to say that he will remain as a member of our
2016 Board of Trustees.

HONOR OUR
VETERANS
The CHS “Honor Our Veterans” committee continues to add the names of veterans to our Wall of
Honor. Participating veterans receive a 6” x 2” plaque bearing name, rank, branch of service and
dates served. The cost of each plaque is $25.00. The CHS donates a portion of each plaque sold to a
local veterans organization. The other portion is placed in the Cornwall Historical Society’s Future
Home Fund. All veteran applications and photos are filed in binders and are on display at the
museum. Contact Betty Ziegler, Ellen Larkin or Millie Boucher at 845 458-5389 to request an
application for yourself or a family member or download from our website
www.cornwallhistoricalsocietymuseumny.com.

“The WW II Wall of Honor has over 600 veterans listed without documentation” according to
researchers Betty Ziegler and Jeanne Maroney. If you think that your name or that of a family member
appears on the wall, please let us know. Betty and Jeanne have been researching but cannot find any
photos of them, in or out of uniform, before or after the war. If you have any information or photos of
these men please call Betty or Jeanne at 845 458-5389.
Our goal is to honor veterans from Cornwall, Cornwall on Hudson, Mountainville or the surrounding
area currently serving, discharged, retired or deceased.
