Written stage (Group work) Your tutor will open two themes in the forum. In the “Written stage” topic you should follow these directions: 1. Get familiar with the contents of unit 2. Use all the webconferences recordings and the resources in the virtual learning environment. American English Pronunciation: http://pronuncian.com/Sounds/Default.aspx? Learning the sounds: http://www.bbc.co.uk/worldservice/learningenglish/grammar/pron/sounds/ English Accent Coach: http://www.englishaccentcoach.com/ 2. Download the attached Word file in the forum called “Collaborative_Work2Exercises”. NOTICE: The exercises 1 to 6 are to be developed in the group stage work; meanwhile, exercises 7 to 9 are for the individual stage (oral production). 3. The group decides on the way each member will participate. Certain number of exercises can be assigned to each member of the team, for example. 4. Every student in the group must upload in a Word file his/her individual contribution in the forum “Written stage”, giving answer to the chosen questions. The file must be named: first name+last name_act10_group+number of group (e.g. lilianamoreno_act10_group15). Everybody in the group should comment partners’ contributions. 5. When the whole group is sure that all questions (1 to 6) have been answered, the group leader must assemble all contributions in one Word file, with a front page including only the names of students who made contributions to the group. This file must be named: Act10_Group+number of group (e.g. Act10_Group15). Remember that this document must include all the requested exercises (1 to 6) from the attached word file in the forum that your tutor opened. Oral production stage Your tutor will open two themes in the forum. In the “Oral production stage” topic you should follow these directions: 1. Each person in the group must answer individually questions 7 to 9 from the attached word file in the forum that your tutor opened. Write the required sentences and post them in the forum “Oral production stage – Individual work” to be checked and approved by your tutor before you record them. Send a message to your tutor through the internal mail telling her you’ve already posted your proposed sentences. 2. Once your tutor has checked your written answers to questions 8 and 9, record the words from exercise 6, and the sentences in exercises 8 and 9, to practice word tress, minimal pairs and intonation. At the beginning of the audio, you must greet and say your name and group number. Then you read your sentences. At the end, be thankful and say good-bye. 3. Before recording, practice the sentences as many times as possible for you to guarantee a very good pronunciation, according to the correct production of English sounds. Be careful with intonation in punctuation, tonic syllables, and emphasis as well. If you have any doubts about how to pronounce some words, look them up at the dictionary and apply correctly the phonetic symbols. You can also use different software or web pages to listen to the pronunciation of the words before you record it (for example, Google translator). 4. Record your audio using tools like “Grabadora de sonidos de Windows”, Audacity, Adobe Audition, Vocaro, etc. Check the quality of your audio before you upload it to the Oral production stage forum. Be sure it is clear enough to be listened, with a good level of volume and no interference or noise in the background. 5. Name your audio: first name+lastname_audio_group+group number (e.g. lilianamoreno_audio_group15), and upload in the forum “oral production stage”. Its weight should not be higher than 2MB. When you attach your audio file, in the body of your message include the sentences you recorded. Invite your partners to comment your audio. Likewise, you should comment other people’s oral contributions. If you have any questions, ask your tutor through the course internal mail.
