2016 Reward and Recognition Scheme Staff Recognition Awards Summary of Scheme The University Staff Recognition Awards acknowledge significant contributions staff have made towards fulfilling the objectives, values and beliefs of the University. The scheme recognises individuals or teams who have made a real difference to the broader life of students, staff or the University in general (i.e. whose achievements fall outside of the scope of Performance Awards). Categories and Criteria Categories for nominations reinforce the beliefs and values of the University which guide our work and behaviour to achieve our objectives. Employees or teams may be nominated if they meet the criteria in relation to one of more of the categories. Each staff member nominated should have made a significant contribution that has positively impacted others. Nominations should highlight the impact made, anecdotal evidence or letters of thanks etc. may be provided to demonstrate their excellence. There is one winner and two highly commended awards given in each category The categories are summarised in the table below Award Title/s Principal’s Exceptional Citizen Award Outstanding Partnership Award Excellence Awards: Purpose of Award presented to individuals or teams who demonstrate the most outstanding achievements in some or all of the following: Willingness to extend themselves to help others Improving the quality of life in the University and/or wider community Demonstrating good citizenship achieving and/or developing effective partnerships with staff, students and external partners for mutual benefit recognising achieving excellence in all our activities from teaching and research to professional management and service delivery Excellence In leadership Award recognising exemplary leadership skills that have a positive impact on an individual, team, department or the University. Excellence in service Award recognising delivering an excellent service in the University or wider community in activities from professional management to service delivery, consistently exceeding expectations Outstanding Creativity Award Excellence in teaching including: recognising teaching initiatives that have had a beneficial impact on students. Postgraduate Tutor Excellence Award Team Excellence in Teaching Award Excellence in research including: recognising research initiatives that have had a beneficial impact on students Excellence in Early Career Research and/or University. Award Excellence in Research Award Team Excellence in Research Award recognising contribution to acting as an agent for change, suggesting, implementing and encouraging innovation Enhancing Fairness Award recognising contribution to achieving fair opportunities for all, allowing individuals to achieve their potential Nomination and selection process The nomination and selection process is as follows: The deadline for nominations is 7th February 2016 Entry must be made via the nomination form Nominations can be made by staff or students Nominees can only be considered for one award category as identified on the nomination form. An acknowledgement email will be sent to the nominator upon receipt of the completed nomination form. Staff will not be considered by the selection Panel without a completed nomination form. Nominations are considered after the deadline by a Panel chaired by the Principal. Members will include the Vice Principal (Staffing) and Dean of Arts & Social Science, the Vice Principal (Education), the Director of Human Resources, the Director of Research, the Director of Student Experience, an academic head of department, a professional service head of department and a student representative. Award Announcement, Ceremony and Prizes Awards ceremony: In each award category, there will be one winner and two highly commended. These will be notified before the award ceremony to ensure attendance or representation at the event, this will be held in April 2016. There will be a presentation which will be held in The Windsor Building Auditorium to which all nominees, their guests and people nominating will be invited. The winners receive their awards from the Principal. Staff and students will be able to attend via a booking process; the presentation will also be streamed to allow people to watch in the building foyer or online. A lunch reception will be arranged for after the award ceremony to which the winners, those highly commended and their guests will be invited. The reception is hosted by the Principal. Prizes and Announcement: The winner of each category will be presented with a trophy and a gift voucher in recognition of their achievement. Those highly commended will be presented with a certificate and gift voucher. After the event, announcements of the winners will made via iQuad, eZine, eCampus and the Students Union website along with an all staff email.
