Chapter 3 – Secret Annex July 5, 1942 – Margot received a notice to be sent up to a concentration camp. July 6, 1942 the Frank family goes into hiding in the annex behind Otto’s business In the annex- lived Anne, Margot, Otto, Edith, Auguste, Hermann, and Peter.. Mr. Pfeffer joined them later on Meip, Bep, and Victor Kugler helped the Franks while they were in the annex, by bringing them food, some clothes, books, and different things to occupy themselves with. If they were found out to be helping the Franks – They would be killed by the Nazis. Anne keep track of her daily activities and feelings in her diary (Known as Kitty) – hoping that it would be published as a book, once the war was over. Jewish Deaths – total 6 million Non Jewish Deaths – Total 5 Million Chapter 4 – Discovery and Deportation August 4, 1944 Anne and her family/friends are discovered in the annex, after someone (unknown) called the govt. and stated Jews were in hiding there They were sent to Westerbork camp by train car After 1 month at Westerbork – they were sent to Auschwitz Concentration Camp When they arrived at Auschwitz – they were sorted into “workable” and “nonworkable” groups, Mr. Pfeffer was sent to gas chamber. Women and men were separated. Anne and Margot left Auschwitz and were sent to Bergen-Belsen camp in Germany. Anne and Margot died of disease in March 1945. They were buried in a mass grave. April 15, 1945 their camp was liberated and saved. If they would have lived a few more weeks, they probably would have survived the Holocaust. Otto was the only person from the annex to survive the holocaust – He was given Anne’s diary and papers from Miep upon returning to his office.
