LING 435 / 535 Applied Linguistics Instructor: Janet Cowal EH 231; 725-9193; cowalj@pdx.edu This course provides an introduction to several topics in applied linguistics theory. It also examines ways in which linguistics theory is applied to solve real world problems involving language. Students will: gain an understanding of the field of applied linguistics and its relationship to the field of linguistics and other academic disciplines begin to form their own identity within, and relationship to, the field of applied linguistics explore what one might do with an applied linguistics degree do applied linguistics and reflect on what that means Texts: Required reading (e.g., articles from TESOL Quarterly) will be made available through the PSU Library’s electronic reserve format.
