Santiago Library System
GENERAL INFORMATION
The Santiago Library System (SLS) is a state-funded network of nine public library jurisdiction members
and two associate member libraries in Orange County, California. The purpose of the System is to
promote cooperation and coordination of library collections and services so as to meet the informational,
educational, cultural and recreational needs of all residents of the Orange County area.
The Executive Council is comprised of the Directors of the member libraries.
SLS Committees are comprised of representatives of member libraries.

HISTORY OF THE SANTIAGO LIBRARY SYSTEM
October 14th 1969
The Orange County Cooperative Library System is formed.
December 29th, 1989
The Santiago Library System (formerly OCCCLS) is established as a CLSA
agency.
July 1st, 2009
The Southern California Library Cooperative is organized, incorporating both
SLS and the Metropolitan Cooperative Library System of Los Angeles County.
June 30th, 2013
Nine Orange County libraries withdraw from SCLC and reestablish SLS (during
this process, the temporary working name of Cooperative Libraries of Orange
County – CLOC – is used). Two associate members join SLS: Huntington Beach
Public Library and the OC Public Law Library.
