First we’ll learn about culture/s & do a little personal research, sketch out ideas and then create a drawing based on your own cultural interests. The work you create can be any style that integrates your culture and original ideas. Expect to research your culture/s, find pictures, do preliminary sketches, develop a theme, and then write intelligently about your work. This may only take a few minutes as you talk with your parents/grandparents. 3. Look up the culture you feel most connected to online to find symbols, design, or imagery. 4. Sketch 6 different patterns or designs you found that were appealing to you. 5. From your sketches create 3 sketches that compile (combine) the symbols, designs, images into a unified composition that is unique and reflects you and your artistic training. 6. Sketch one final plan using color. a. Develop a color scheme and color blends that match your ideas. Consider using toned paper (black or grey). b. This plan should have great detail in patterns or rhythm, COLOR, lines, shapes, textures, or values. This will be the design that you will use to make your final draft. 7. Fill in all of the lightest colors first. Build up 2 or three colors then blend with baby oil if you want. Continue to add and layer color until the image looks complete.
