Basic details 1.1 Details of applicant Give your name, title(s), gender and postal address at which you can be reached during the whole application and assessment process. Give your telephone numbers, email address(es) and website (optional). 1.2 Title of research proposal Use Times 16 bold for this section. 1.3 Supervisors Specify which two supervisors have agreed to supervise you, from the list of the following participating professors: prof. Peter Werkhoven. 1.4 Summary of research proposal Provide a summary of your proposal (topic, approach and potential importance of results) in no more than 300 words. Take care to provide an informative and relevant abstract, as this is often the first that expert reviewers will see of your proposal. Research proposal - Scientific/Scholarly quality Describe the proposed research in the sections 2.1 – 2.8 as accurately as you can within the maximum number of 2500 words (the sections 2.9 and 2.10 do not count towards the total number of words; figure legends do count towards the total number of words). 2.1 Motivation, Scientific background Describe the background of your proposal. Keep in mind that this section is not a review, the aim of this section is to lead the reader to your research aim. 2.2 Objectives, overall aim Specify the overall aim of your project. 2.3 Related work Describe relevant work done in this area, the state-of-the-art. What is missing in this, what is the gap this proposal will fill? 2.4 Approach Specify the key objectives/research questions that you will address to achieve your overall aim. Describe the research approach and methodology. Specify why the aim and approach of your proposal is original; explain the game research relevance of the subject. This section is the heart of your proposal, it is recommended to structure it by using meaningful headers. 2.5 Work plan Describe the planning, including a practical time schedule. Include risk assessments and eventual contingency plans. 2.6 Expected results Describe what the expected outcomes are, as concretely as possible. List deliverables. 2.7 Significance, impact Describe the scientific and societal relevance, and the effect that the outcome of your research will have on other research, innovation, or socials aspects. 2.8 Local, national and international collaboration Mention your eventual collaborators and the topic/nature of the collaboration. 2.9 Focus How does the proposal relate to the topic of the NWO-funded Graduate Programme Game Research (Artificial Intelligence, Software Systems, Virtual Worlds, Interaction Technology, Game and Play Studies), how does it stimulate interaction within U-GATE? 2.9 Number of words Indicate the total number of words you used to address the sections 2.1 – 2.8. 2.10 Literature references Max. 1 page, font Helvetica/Arial 10. 3 Graduate Programme Game Research 3. Curriculum vitae In sections 3.1 – 3.4 you should provide a chronological overview of your academic career.
