application and assessment process. Give your telephone numbers, email address(es) and website

Specify which two supervisors have agreed to supervise you, from the list of the following
participating professors: prof. Hans Bodlaender, prof. Sjaak Brinkkemper, prof. Linda van der Gaag,
prof. Johan Jeuring, prof. Marc van Kreveld, prof. John-Jules Meyer, prof. Joost Raessens, prof.
Remco Veltkamp, prof. Peter Werkhoven.

Summary of research proposal
Provide a summary of your proposal (topic, approach and potential importance of results) in no more
than 300 words. Take care to provide an informative and relevant abstract, as this is often the first
that expert reviewers will see of your proposal. Make sure the abstract clearly describes what you are
going to investigate, why you are going to investigate this subject and which results you expect to
find.

Research proposal - Scientific/Scholarly quality
Describe the proposed research in the sections 2.1 – 2.8 as accurately as you can within the
maximum number of 2500 words (the sections 2.9 and 2.10 do not count towards the total
number of words; figure legends do count towards the total number of words).

Motivation, Scientific background
Describe the background of your proposal. Keep in mind that this section is not a review, the aim of
this section is to lead the reader to your research aim.

Objectives, overall aim
Specify the overall aim of your project.

Related work
Describe relevant work done in this area, the state-of-the-art. What is missing in this, what is the gap
this proposal will fill?
2.4
Approach
Specify the key objectives/research questions that you will address to achieve your overall aim.
Describe the research approach and methodology. Specify why the aim and approach of your
proposal is original; explain the game research relevance of the subject. This section is the heart of
your proposal, it is recommended to structure it by using meaningful headers.

Work plan
Describe the planning, including a practical time schedule. Include risk assessments and eventual
contingency plans.
2.6
Expected results
Describe what the expected outcomes are, as concretely as possible. List deliverables.

Significance, impact
Describe the scientific and societal relevance, and the effect that the outcome of your research will
have on other research, innovation, or socials aspects.

Local, national and international collaboration
Mention your eventual collaborators and the topic/nature of the collaboration.

How does the proposal relate to the topic of the NWO-funded Graduate Programme Game
Research (Artificial Intelligence, Software Systems, Virtual Worlds, Interaction Technology, Game

3.1
Education
Provide a short overview of your education (school, bachelor and master). Mention the final grade of
your Bachelor exam and any other grades you may consider relevant (provide both the GPA and the
grade in the national grading system). Include information on any internships/rotations/thesis/stage
in research laboratories (Supervisor and topic). Explain any delays in your academic education of
more than 6 months.

Summarize the main achievements of your most important research activity to date (e.g. bachelor
thesis or master stage), 300 words max.

Optional: mention any other activities/experiences that you consider may support your application,
such as internships, experiences abroad, experiences in companies etc.
