Many emergencies have The City of Stonnington has undertaken a Community Emergency Risk Management (CERM) approach to identify sources of risk within the municipality, the likelihood of an emergency event occurring and the treatment options available to Council to deal with such an event. Preventing, responding to and recovering from emergency events are the reason for the development of the Municipal Emergency Management Plan (MEMP). This plan provides the strategies for protecting the community, activities to be undertaken during an emergency to reduce personal injury and losses to life, property and the environment and measures to assist people to recover from emergencies and continue with their lives. The City of Stonnington recognises that these tasks require the combined expertise and resources of emergency services, government, private organisations and our community. The role of and responsibilities of each of these agencies is defined within this plan. The City of Stonnington MEMP has been produced pursuant to Section 20(2) of the Emergency Management Act 1986 and is the result of the cooperative efforts of the emergency management planning committee and assistance from Victoria State Emergency Service Central Regional Headquarters, Victoria Police and the Department of Human Services Regional Office and recognises the previous planning activities of the municipal area. Sequence of Plan Sections This MEMP addresses all identified and agreed aspects of the process of planning for, mitigating, responding to and recovering from emergencies that may impact on the City of Stonnington. The sections of the plan have been specifically sequenced to provide operational users with easy access to the information they are most likely to require in an emergency. Underpinning policy and administrative information is also detailed in the plan. Refer to the Table of Contents for more details.
