Stephanie Santos Question What are the most effective instructional approaches that I can use with students who have autism so that they can succeed in meeting the appropriate expectations of the curriculum in their regular classroom? Rational I chose to study autism the day I went for my first observation. I was observing a class with students with multiple exceptionalities at James Culnan. There were only five students in the class and one boy in particular stood out to me. He is a student with severe autism and cerebral palsy. He is a very sweet student whom aims to please his teachers but often feels frustrated because his communication skills are very low. I spoke with his teacher and she showed me his books and some strategies she used to communicate with him such as, using Boardmaker (using pictures to communicate) and so on. Therefore I decided to look at autism and strategies to help student’s learning. References 1. Special Education Resource Document. (n.d.). Ministry of Education / Ministère de l'Éducation.
