Mary Free Bed Rehabilitation Hospital has a limited number of
volunteer positions for college students pursuing degrees in physical
therapy or occupational therapy. Students will have the opportunity
to observe therapists, and maintain the cleanliness of therapy areas.
Student volunteers can observe professionals in the following areas:
inpatient adult, outpatient pediatrics, and outpatient adult.
Participants of Mary Free Bed's Career Seminar Program can expect
to learn about speech language pathology, orthotics and prosthetics,
occupational therapy, physical therapy, recreational therapy,
psychology, and nursing. Students will receive information on
schooling requirements, potential salary expectations, and a typical
day’s routine. Job shadowing opportunities are offered on a limited
basis and students must attend a career seminar before signing up for
job shadowing opportunities.

Job Shadowing/Internship Job Shadow: A short-term experience, less than one day, where

Musical Touchstone Program
Description Welcoming Spaces: Perform in a public area such as a hospital lobby, family
waiting room, or common area to create a welcoming and soothing
environment. Volunteers play once a month or more often, if preferred.
Group Music Events: Singers and instrumentalists performing for groups,
especially for residents in long-term care communities, to encourage social
interaction and bring a sense of joy.
Bedside Support: Work directly with hospice patients in their homes,
hospital setting, or long-term care communities to provide a comforting
presence. Patients and families often request unaccompanied voice and softvoiced instruments. Applicants must be at least one year past the date of a
significant loss.

for helping people find their way to various places, and be trained to
look up patient room numbers for visitors.
