Warm-up Quest A warm-up game by Meghan Fuga, Methacton School District Equipment: Warm-up Quest game mat (see directions below) 4 polyspots * 4 dice * 4 bean bags as game markers * 4 cones to mark perimeter of the gym Music * Polyspots, dice and bean bags should be colored coded to represent each group. Set-up: Warm-up Quest game mat is placed in the center of the gym with the bean bag game markers at each corner. One polyspot is placed in the middle of each quadrant of the gym with a die on each spot. Four cones should be placed in each corner of the gym to mark the perimeter leaving enough room for students to jog around the perimeter. ^ ^ O O Game Mat O O ^ ^ ^ = cones O = polyspots Warm-up Quest (Meghan Fuga) page 2 Description: Divide the class into 4 groups of 4-5 students and designate a group leader. Students in each group stand in a circle around one of the polyspots. When the music begins: The leader in each group rolls the die and jogs to the Warm-up Quest game mat. When at the mat, the student moves their bean bag marker around the game mat according to the number rolled. The student reads the exercise card they landed on and returns to their group and leads the exercise until the music stops (approximately 30 seconds.) If the exercise card is a locomotor movement, the student leads his/her group counter clockwise around the outside perimeter of the gym. When the music begins again: The person to the right of leader rolls the dice and continues the activity. The warm-up can continue for 10-15 minutes. Warm-up Quest Game Mat Directions: The mat is a white vinyl table cloth. 24 5 ½ x 8 ½ clear sheet protectors secured around the outside perimeter of the vinyl table cloth to place the exercise/skill cards. Cards are used as spaces around the game mat. 24 5 ½ x 8 ½ exercise/skill cards -Cards can be made by copying and pasting activities. -Print on cardstock -Cards can include: hurdler stretch, pretend jump rope, planks, run, jumping jacks, power walk, arm circles, star jumps, mountain climbers, free dance, jog, crab dips, crab kicks, standing toe touches, side-slide, push-ups, curl-ups, butterfly stretch, gallop, jog in place, flamingoes, skip, burpees, student choice.
