The African Pharmacogenomics Research Consortium represented by the
Universities of Cape Town, Stellenbosch, Pretoria from South Africa and African
Institute of Biomedical Science and Technology (AiBST), Harare Zimbabwe, is pleased to announce the 3 rd Pharmacogenetics and Personalised Medicine
Conference in Africa. This conference follows after two previous meetings (the first two both held in Nairobi Kenya in 2003 and 2009, respectively). This conference will bring together international and national leaders from academia, regulatory bodies, healthcare organisations, and pharmaceutical and diagnostics industries to discuss recent progress in this area. This conference will focus on Africa with the theme
“ Going back to our roots to find biomarkers of disease susceptibility and drug response ”. The conference also aims to highlight developments and advances in key areas of research including pharmacogenetics, pharmacogenomics, rare diseases, diabetes and cancer. We hope to attract multidisciplinary participation in the conference; however, to facilitate a highly interactive conference, the number of places available will be limited to 150; therefore, early registration is recommended.
Satellite meeting:
A 3 day workshop will be run prior to the conference ( 4th-6th April 2016 ) on the
Analysis of NGS Data for Pharmacogenomics. The workshop is aimed at genetics, genomics and bioinformatics researchers interested in the use of genomic data for personalizing treatment. It will include a combination of lectures and hands-on practical exercises covering topics such as NGS theory (an overview), annotation of variants, including functional analysis and implications. A more detailed timetable and registration form will be released in due course. For more details contact Professor
Nicola Mulder at: nicola.mulder@uct.ac.za
