Catholic Schools Week Agenda January 31 – February 6, 2016 Please join us for our annual celebration of National Catholic Schools Week, beginning Sunday, January 31. The theme, “Catholic Schools: Communities of Faith, Knowledge, and Service”, highlights our focus on faith development, academic excellence, and community service. We have planned a variety of events to show how we are doing this as a community at St. Matthew School. Please post this CSW schedule as a reference to the activities and dress code throughout the week. Sun., Jan. 31 – Catholic Schools: Communities of Faith, Knowledge, and Service - In Our Parish All students are encouraged to attend 10:30 a.m. Mass. The choir will sing and students will be assigned as greeters, readers, etc. Students are to dress in their best uniforms for Mass. Girls are to wear skirts/jumpers and boys should wear button down shirts and neckties. The Open House is from 11:30 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. in the school. Stop in the Gathering Space for registration information and a display of student art and crafts. Skate into Catholic Schools Week at Galactic Ice from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. Tickets are available in the school office for $7.00 each. Monday – Friday: 11:15 a.m. Lunch with your children. Please come directly to Harkins Hall at 11:15 am where your child/ren will join you for a special family luncheon. Mon., Feb. 1 – Catholic Schools: Communities of Faith, Knowledge, and Service - In Our Community Favorite Team Day – Students may dress down and wear a shirt/jersey representing their favorite team! (or come dressed in uniform) “Soup”er Bowl Monday – Students bring soup or other items for the Tyrone Food Pantry. (See CSW “Food Fight” flyer.) Tickets for prizes will be drawn twice daily during the week. Student Bingo: 8:45 – 9:30 a.m. for grades K-2 9:45 – 10:15 a.m. for grades 3-6 Tues., Feb. 2 – Catholic Schools: Communities of Faith, Knowledge, and Service - In Our Students Students may dress as their favorite book character! (or come dressed in uniform) Bring a “Food Fight” donation for the Tyrone Food Pantry. Students will play board games in their classrooms. Bring simple games which are easy to play. First grade - Reader’s Theatre presentation in the Gathering Space for all students Wed., Feb. 3 – Catholic Schools: Communities of Faith, Knowledge, and Service - In Our Nation Dress down in red, white, and blue to show your patriotism! (or come dressed in uniform) All students will recite the Pledge of Allegiance and sing “America the Beautiful” in the Gathering Space after morning announcements. The meaning of the pledge will be discussed in each classroom. Bring a “Food Fight” donation for the Tyrone Food Pantry. Get Up & Move Day – Music will be played randomly as a signal for the students to get up and dance! Thurs., Feb. 4 – Catholic Schools: Communities of Faith, Knowledge, and Service– In Our Vocations Career Day - Students may dress according to their chosen career, such as doctor, business person, teacher, etc.! (or come dressed in unform) The classes will discuss vocations as a group. Students are invited to share information with their classmates about their chosen career/vocation. Parents have been invited to educate the students about their careers. Bring a “Food Fight” donation for the Tyrone Food Pantry. Who’s Who Contest voting Fri., Feb. 5 – Catholic Schools: Communities of Faith, Knowledge, and Service - In Our Faculty, Staff, and Volunteers Pajama Party Day - The students may wear pajamas and slippers, but should have shoes for going outside. (Of course, students are permitted to wear their uniform if they prefer.) The students will have a “Guest Reader” as the teachers switch classrooms for a little while. Last day to bring a “Food Fight” donation. Score some points for your class! The teachers and volunteers will be recognized in a special way. The students will enjoy an afternoon movie in Harkins Hall. Who’s Who Contest winners will be announced along with the date of their free dress down.
