HINTON ST GEORGE CE FIRST SCHOOL Headteacher: Mr Philip Smith West Street, Hinton St George, Somerset, TA17 8SA Tel & Fax. 01460 72653 E-mail: office@hinton-st-george.somerset.sch.uk Web site: www.hinton-st-george.somerset.sch.uk 3 October 2014 Dear Parents and Carers It is lovely to see so many of you at the first Parent Forum and the PFA meeting this week. It was great to discuss the curriculum at the first meeting and understand your thoughts on how we should equip our children for the 21st Century. Our next Parent Forum is planned for Thursday 6 November (but we are hoping to have an earlier meeting on Tuesday morning 14 October to discuss our Ofsted Report providing we have received it and distributed to all parents by then, we will let parents know if this is to go ahead), and we will look at how the school is supporting all its learners. I have invited Jo Milum, our new SENCO, along to this meeting to answer any specific questions around SEN provision. HARVEST SERVICE We are very much looking forward to seeing you all at the Harvest Festival service at the church on Monday at 9am. Kingfisher Class have been busy rehearsing a short retelling of the ‘Enormous Turnip’ and Woodpecker class will be singing a harvest song and sharing their artwork. We would be grateful if your child/ren could bring in a gift as a token of harvest (*see details below). Please make sure it is not too heavy for your child/ren as the they will be carrying their gifts to church. Please remember that the children sit in the front pews. After the service the staff will escort all the children back to school. Thank you. *Should you wish to send in some produce (tins or packets – please no glass jars/bottles) for your child as their Harvest offering please do so. We are hoping to take our harvest gifts to the Pilsdon Community ourselves, as we have done in the past. Pilsdon is a Christian Community situated at Pilsdon Manor, near Bridport and the staff and residents have always been very grateful to receive our Harvest offerings. The Community has grown over the years and their self-sufficiency and vegetable gardens have improved considerably, therefore, they do not need so much fresh produce any more which has a limited shelf life. They now ask whether ‘everyday’ gifts could be incorporated into our Harvest offerings – razors, soap, flannels, jumpers, socks (in good condition) etc. I’m sure, as in past years, all our gifts will be gratefully received and the children will see the good work that is being carried out by the Pilsdon Community. OPEN MORNING The school and pre-school are going to have an Open Morning on 13 October between 9.30 to 11.30am so please could you spread the word to prospective parents and families in the local area with small children to come see our school in learning. Year 4 parents received an invitation on Monday to visit Maiden Beech for their open evening on Tuesday 7 October. You may be also interested to know that Swanmead Middle School are also having an open evening on Thursday 9 October 6.30 - 8.15pm. SCHOOL DINNERS Hot school meals and packed lunches continue to be enjoyed by the Key stage 1 and reception children and we would like to extend the provision for Year 3 and 4 too. However, in order to do this we need to have an idea of how many pupils would be interested in taking up this option. If you are interested please could you complete the slip at the bottom of this newsletter and return in to the school office by Wednesday 8 October so that we can investigate these plans further with our catering supplier. If you would like to see a sample 2 week menu do please let us know. One is pinned to the school noticeboard just outside the infants’ classroom. SCHOOL LUNCHES R, Y1 & Y2 Today we are sending home the school lunch order form for the weeks beginning 13 and 20 October. Please remember to complete the form and return it to school by next Monday morning 6 October WITHOUT FAIL. There have been occasions when parents have not returned the form on time and we have had to ring up to ascertain your child’s lunch choices. If we are unable to contact you we will order a repeat of your child’s menu for the previous 2 weeks. Thank you. BEGINNING OF THE SCHOOL DAY A polite reminder to parents in the morning that when dropping children off at school please ensure that they remain in the classroom once you have left. We do not currently have the resources to supervise the children outside and therefore you must ensure they are supervised if they are going to play outside. Please also ensure that your child is then delivered to their classroom but before leaving the site so that we keep track of where the children are. Thank you for your continued cooperation on this important matter. PARENTS’ EVENING Parent’s evenings are planned for the week before half term (Monday and Tuesday 20/21 October) and will give you an opportunity to see how your child has settled in to the new school year. Please look out for signing up forms in each classroom from Tuesday next week. BAG2SCHOOL COLLECTION Thank you for last Bag2school collection, we raised £165 between school and preschool.
