Principal’s Message
Our last day of school before winter break is December 20th (45 minute early dismissal). We still
have two full weeks of instruction before break. Please talk with your child about the importance
of giving their best effort each day. After break there is much more for your child to learn and
work towards. We will be pushing your child to achieve as much as they can every single day.
I hope everyone has a safe and wonderful break!
Technology
Our students are working on computers for educational purposes on a daily basis. Each grade
level has an assigned time during the week to use the computer lab and get on learning.com and
use a program called EasyTech. EasyTech helps students efficiently learn technology skills,
digital learning, and higher-order thinking. Outside of the assigned lab time our students are also
using Chromebooks each day. For example, our 3rd graders use Chromebooks to access
www.xtramath.org every morning. Students took a pre-assessment to see what skills they need to
work on. Each student works on specific math facts assigned to them based on their preassessment score.
Did You Know?
Did you know that twice a month grade level teachers and I meet to look at assessment data. We
study the strengths and weaknesses of every single student at Sedalia. After studying the data,
strategies are decided and implemented for intervention and enrichment. Your teachers are
working hard to provide the best instruction that will meet the needs of all of Sedalia’s students.
Weather
It is very hard to predict the weather and how it effects our school day. Please make sure that we
have all of your up-to-date phone number(s). I have had many parents say that they never
received a phone call from the school because their number has changed. There will be times
when we are delayed or released early. It is very important to have accurate phone numbers.
Special Visitor!
On Tuesday, December 3, Channel 10 TV meteorologist Josh Poland was a special guest for the
5th graders at Sedalia. Josh gave an outstanding presentation on the responsibilities of a
meteorologist and taught them about weather predicting and weather patterns. The students got
to learn about all the tools and technology that meteorologists use to provide weather
forecasts. Josh even gave away autographed photos to four lucky students who were able to
answer his challenging weather questions correctly! The Sedalia 5th grade team would like to
thank Josh for taking time out to visit our school!
Reminders:
Secret Santa is this week. Students will have the opportunity to look around and buy gifts for
their family members. Please make sure that students have a safe place to keep their money.
