We had a great Academic Pep Rally on Friday where we recognized honor roll students, members of sports teams, students with perfect attendance, students scoring ALL Distinguished last year and Students of the Month! More recognitions will follow 3rd quarter. Students may play in the gym, watch a movie in the library, or dance in the cafeteria. Refreshments are available for purchase. Proceeds fund the Good Faith Effort party and the People’s Choice Awards program at the end of the school year. Parents and families may help by donating 2-liter drinks for the party. Feb. 11 Mid-term Night and Science Showcase, 6:00 – 7:30 Announcements: · Every year, students take a Student Voice survey to provide teachers with information about their students’ thoughts on their classroom and instruction. We will be giving the Student Voice Survey the last week in January. It is an anonymous survey but does give us valuable information. If you do not wish for your child to take the survey, please print the attached form and send it in. If we don’t get your form, your child will take part in the survey. · Box Tops for Education are back! The contest has been extended to January 22. 7th grade is leading with 280, 6th is close behind with 205, and 8th grade is trailing at 57. Students should take box tops to any of their grade level teachers. The winning grade level gets a Hoodie Day! · Douglass Park Centennial Celebration Essay Contest--In honor of the 100th year of Frederick Douglass Park 1916-2016, the Centennial Celebration Committee and Georgetown Neighborhood Association are encouraging young people to help celebrate by participating in an essay contest. Middle School students submit an essay of 200 words or less. Theme: Douglass Park still going strong, 100 years of pride and play! One winner in the middle school division will receive $100 cash prize and present their winning essay at a Black History program on February 25. Submit questions and/or final essay via email to sisvpower@icloud.com by midnight February 12, 2016 · The Artists Eye Spring Break Program is an intensive five-day course where students will learn diverse artistic techniques from established artists. Attached is the application that is due on February 29. · Kroger Community Rewards--Please consider signing up or updating your account: https://www.kroger.com/communityrewards -- Leestown Middle PTSA #76875. PTSA made over $800 for the last quarter because we shopped and signed up with Kroger. Please sign up—it’s free and easy! Ask Your Child About: · Charger Cards or recognitions they might have received at the academic pep rally last Friday. · Achieve 3000—a program for all students to assist in improving their reading.
