From POCKETLIFT® to MegaPipe: ContiTech sets new
standards in conveyor belt technologies
 Specialist solutions for material transportation on steep inclines and verticals on show at
the UGOL ROSSII & MINING
 A broad portfolio of products for mining and industry
 Cost-efficient alternatives to classic transport solutions
Hanover, May 2014. Coal-rich landscapes and generous deposits of ore, gold and copper have
turned the mining industry into a major player in Russia. When it comes to mineral extraction and
manufacturing, ContiTech offers a customised product portfolio as well as comprehensive
expertise in specialist solutions. From 3 to 6 June 2014 a selection of the company’s tried-andtested conveyor belt technologies and product innovations – the closed MegaPipe belt among
them – will be on show at stand 1.C10 in Hall 1 of the UGOL ROSSII & MINING show in
Novokuznetsk, Russia.
“Many mining companies and industrial corporations across Russia are planning to update their
systems and equipment at the moment, and they are looking for sustainable, viable solutions,”
explains Thomas Neumann, Head of Sales Mining Eastern Europe. “It’s organisations like these
that we want to attract with our exhibit at Russia’s largest mining trade fair. The solutions we are
showing there are customised alternatives to classic transport options such as trucks,” he adds.
The ContiTech exhibit will include the closed conveyor belt MegaPipe, which was first unveiled one
year ago and sets new standards in tube conveyor solutions. With an outer diameter of up to 900
mm, the MegaPipe has twice the transport capacity of conventional tube belts and can handle
materials after just one round of primary crushing. “So trucks are no longer needed,” Neumann
points out.

-2Flexible solutions for vertical transportation
ContiTech is bringing innovations to the Russian market in the shape of its specialist MAXOFLEX®
and FLEXOWELL® conveyor belts for steep and vertical transportation. Able to convey bulky
materials over inclines of up to 90 degrees, the two products are available in a variety of types for
use in different contexts. FLEXOWELL®, for example, handles up to 6,000 tonnes of material per
hour. Low-noise and eco-friendly to run, a single belt of this kind can even transfer its load over
several changes of gradient from horizontal to vertical.
The proven FLEXOWELL® technology also forms the basis of the POCKETLIFT® system.
“POCKETLIFT® opens up completely new dimensions for openpit and underground mining but also
for quarrying,” explains Paul Semenov, Sales Manager ContiTech Special Bulk Conveying.
Materials are collected in fabric-reinforced rubber pockets attached to cross beams. The pockets
can be fitted or dismantled independently of each other, and their patented shape means no
hinges are needed. The system will handle up to 4,000 cubic metres of materials per hour. Also,
POCKETLIFT® can be assembled on a modular basis so there is no limit to the lift-heights it can
cover. This makes it the most effective system on the market for the uninterrupted vertical
transportation of bulky materials.
Broad product range to suit all requirements
Another proven, eco-friendly transport solution is the cost-efficient SICON® system, also on show
at the UGOL ROSSII & MINING. These solid, durable conveyor belts can handle even the toughest
conditions and are suitable for transporting a range of substances including abrasive, oily and fatty
materials. The closed conveyor negotiates tight bends with ease, eliminating the need for transfer
points. Moreover, being closed on the return run as well, SICON® prevents dust and spillages from
damaging products and systems. Materials are fully protected during transit with minimum
environmental impact.

-3“With our broad product portfolio and customised solutions, we want to demonstrate to Russia’s
mining industry and corporations the strength of the ContiTech brand when it comes to specialist
applications,” says Neumann. “Uninterrupted conveyor belt technologies mean lasting cost-savings
for companies. They also ensure more efficient materials transportation over the longer term.”

The SICON® conveyor belt consists of two textile-reinforced profiles. Each one has a tensile
member consisting of a steel cord that has been vulcanised in. When transporting goods, the
sealed belt is dust-tight.
