Many thanks to the wonderful folks at Anthrocon and all the attendees who, during the three day convention in Pittsburgh, donated and raised a large amount of money for the shelter! With these funds we are improving, repairing and adding fencing to help provide a more enriched and safe environment for the dogs in our care. Car Show Update! As usual, the annual car show hosted by Dale Eicher was a great success. Lots of gorgeous cars were showed off to benefit the animals at the shelter. Thanks to everyone who made this event a success! Ex-Paw-Sition Update! Our annual Expawsition at the Christian Klay Winery went very smoothly and was great fun for all. Thanks to Sharon Klay and all the other volunteers who make this yearly event a success to help provide for the shelter’s needs! Bike Run for the Dogs Update! A big thanks to Mary, Jim, and Paul of Riser’s Pub and Dogwood Acres—and all the great folks who volunteered to cook and staff the event—for another hugely successful Bike Run for the Dogs! This annual event is always a blast and truly helps our shelter! SCOOTER NEEDS YOUR HELP! Scooter was injured by a german shepherd who grabbed him on the neck—this damaged his salivary gland which resulted in saliva leaking into his neck causing a big bulge. To repair this injury he will have to go to a specialist vet at Ohio State. If you would like to help him with his surgery, please send donations to: Fayette Friends of Animals, Scooter’s Fund, PO Box 1282, Uniontown, PA 15401 Foster Moms (and Dads!) Needed. Don’t want to come to the shelter but want to help out? Consider becoming a foster parent for a dog or cat who needs extra attention or is simply too young to be at the shelter. We have kittens, cats and dogs who need socialized to help them become highly adoptable! The shelter currently has only a handful of foster homes (Sue, Annette, Marge, Flo, Carol, Stephanie, Karen—thank you!) and desperately needs more. Litters of pups stay healthier out of the shelter, so do kittens. Enjoy the fun of a pup or kitten and then give them back when they are ready to move on! Handy Man (or woman!) Needed! Are you retired and looking for something to do? The shelter could use a handy person to help out with odd jobs and minor repairs around the shelter! We also need someone with a chainsaw to come cut up a fallen pine tree. Please call us at 724-245-7815 if you can help! Don’t Forget GOODSEARCH! Raise money for the shelter by using www.goodsearch.com for your internet searching needs! Just select Fayette Friends of Animals as your designated charity and we’ll earn money for each search you do. Also, if you do your shopping on major retailers online through the goodsearch links it will benefit the shelter! How easy is that? Featured Gems Meet Happy and Tucker! Are you the one for me? Answer yes if you’re looking for a pleaser and can be my leader. Happy is a husky mix who is very smart and loves to please. He enjoys and excels in obedience training and would love a person who will continue that with him. He knows how to sit and heel. He is looking for a home with no other dogs since they make him anxious. No cats, he is a husky after all. He loves to be petted, snuggle, give paw, and go for walks. He would like an older, settled home with teenagers and older only. Are you the one for me? Answer yes if you’re looking for a quiet, snuggly friend for company. Tucker is an older boy (we are guessing 7ish) who was adopted as a younger cat and returned two years ago due to a move. He is a very affectionate fellow who enjoys being petted and snuggled. He gets a long great with other cats. He needs his eyes wiped daily. He is so sad here at the shelter he would love to finally find a new home that will love him. Pedigree Foundation Adoption Drive. We’d love your help with raising food for animal shelters around the country (including us!). All you need to do is become a fan of The PEDIGREE Adoption Drive on Facebook! Visit www.facebook.com/pedigree to become a fan. For each new fan, Pedigree will donate a bowl of food! So far they have raised nearly 1 million bowls and our shelter has received several hundred dollars in coupons for free bags of food! We understand that it is frustrating when our supporters cannot get wayward cats and dogs into the shelter however this is the limitation of being a no-kill shelter—we do not euthanize to make space. We adopt out roughly 250 cats and 800 dogs per year on a good year and, as the only no-kill in the county, this makes it impossible to accommodate the full need in our county—we receive requests to give shelter to roughly 30 cats per day during the spring, summer and fall months but can only house 60 cats comfortably at the shelter while they wait to find homes. We appreciate your understanding and your continued support as we try to service our county to the best of our ability and capacity.
