Final Project Winter 2015
Purpose:
In the interests of developing your professional leadership and aiding your path for campus
involvement, the First-Year Leadership Institute’s Final Project is geared for you to get to
know the campus better, create an action plan to layout a plan of your years beyond FYLI and
meet people who are already doing what you want to do.
Instructions:
Students will create a professional portfolio that they can keep and continue to add to as they
progress in their college and professional life. Your portfolio will need to include the following
items listed below:
● Your personal vision and mission statement (Class 1)
● Your first draft of your resume and the final resume after the Take 10 advising session
at the Career Center (Class 5)
● Your cover letter on a prospective job interest (Class 5)
● Responses to the Frequently Asked Questions for Interviews (Class 6)
● Your 4 Letter MBTI Identifiers with your reflection (Class 3)
● Your interview and reflection with someone in the professional field.
Interview and Reflection Instructions:
You will have to interview someone who works in the professional field. This person can be a
professor, faculty member, or family member. Ask this person at least 7 questions. These
questions can be about why they are in their professional field to how they got to where they
are now. Have fun and be creative.
After the interview, write a 2 page reflection on the process and answer the following
questions:
● What have you learned from the interview?
● How was the interview process and what was it like to interview someone in the
professional field?
● How do you plan on applying what you learned in FYLI to your current and future
professional career?
Your reflection should be typed, double-spaced, 12 pt, Times New Roman font.
**In the effort to remain sustainable, please save your professional portfolio to 1 word
document file and upload it to the EEE DropBox by Wednesday, March 11th.**
