Arts and Design Research Cluster Grants Application Guidelines 2015–16 Administered by the Herberger Institute Research Council Herberger Arts and Design Research Cluster Grants promote generative research activity and creative collaborations between and among Herberger faculty, and other researchers across campus, where arts and design play a central part in the research inquiry. Awards are up to $1000 and may include support for a visiting artist, designer or scholar. DEADLINE: March 15 for clusters that begin the following academic year. Eligibility: Open to all Herberger faculty and Academic Professionals as defined in ACD 505-02 and ACD 505-03: lecturer, senior lecturer, principal lecturer, instructor, assistant professor, associate professor, professor, clinical assistant professor, clinical associate professor, clinical professor, assistant professor of practice, associate professor of practice, professor of practice, research assistant professor, research associate professor, research professor, administrative professional, archivist, clinical professional, fine arts specialist, instructional professional, learning resources specialist, librarian, museum professional, research administrator, research engineer, research scientist, research professional, research technologist, academic associates, or persons who are otherwise designated as faculty on the Notice of Appointment. Selection Process: Applications will be reviewed by the Herberger Institute Research Council, which comprises Unit Directors or their designates, and two at-large faculty members. In reviewing proposals, the Herberger Research Council considers the degree of collaboration across disciplines, commitment from a critical mass of cluster participants, and anticipated outcomes of the research group. All projects should include at least one facilitator who is a Herberger faculty member as defined above. Cluster Expectations: 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. Clusters should expect to hold regular (at least monthly) meetings on a schedule agreed to by participants at the time of application; They must present their work in a symposium, roundtable, or panel discussion, or invite an ASU or external scholar to give a lecture or workshop. The public event, which should be open to the campus community and might also include the broader public, maybe held in the fall or the spring semester. (External scholars invited in the fall semester tend to encourage participation for a newly founded cluster. Those who visit in the spring semester help provide a capstone to cluster activities.) Clusters should use the year of funding to explore other future outcomes, such as publications and conferences. Outcomes such as team-developed grant proposals are especially encouraged. Clusters must provide brief mid-point report at the end of the fall semester, and a final report of the year’s activities and an outline of future plans by the end of the spring semester. Please include the dates of your meetings and a conference brochure if available, as well as an assessment of the group’s progress toward or achievement of its goals. Clusters may apply for a second year of funding if they can demonstrate how the second year’s activities will broaden the cluster’s activities, attract additional participants, expand or deepen the group’s focus, or produce spin-off clusters and/or additional campus-wide programs.
