Position Summary:
The Recruitment Associate (RA) contributes to the vision and strategy for Fellowship recruitment
and branding in a given region of the country. The RA is responsible for ensuring that an
ambitious number of leaders from a given region arrive at the 2015 Institute ready to begin the
Fellowship. Depending on the city, the RA will work closely with the RM to lead a team comprising
of 20-30 Campaign Leaders and a team of Fellows on the Fellowship Recruitment Committee to
devise strategies to reach out to the most promising leaders in the region. The RA is also critical in
promoting, enhancing and protecting the Teach For India brand. The RA is the face of Teach For
India and will build and leverage key relationships with high-level stakeholders, heads of colleges
and corporates, and create networks in the region that will help the Recruitment team year on
year.
Ultimately, the RA ensures that the leaders with the best and brightest minds and biggest hearts
join our Fellowship. At the core, the role revolves around changing mindsets in this country and
provides a great platform to build leadership and management skills in a fast-paced, resultsdriven, and challenging team. The RA is scrappy and resourceful, creative and driven and is
excited to share the magic of working with our children.
Overview:
The Recruitment Team at Teach For India is responsible for ensuring that the leaders with the
best and brightest minds and biggest hearts apply and join the Teach For India Fellowship. To that
end, we aim to meet as many promising applicants as possible and inform, inspire and invest them
into our work by sharing three key messages with them:
 The Fellowship is the single greatest leadership-development program available
 Our Alumni force is currently spread across sectors around the world fighting to end
educational inequity in India and that
 This will be the challenge of your life
We build the Teach For India brand in our respective portfolios, conduct presentations in colleges
and corporates nationwide and internationally, focus on cultivating High-potential candidates to
enter the lives of our children as leaders, and ensure presence in important events. The
Recruitment Team engages people across the world to facilitate its outreach and forge
partnerships with important entities. To this end, the Recruitment Team not only ensures the
continuity of the movement, but we also work to substantially change the mindsets of the youth,
parents, teachers and professionals we meet across the country every single day. The team is vital
in ensuring that the vision of Teach For India is ultimately realized: one day all children in India
will attain an excellent education.
Responsibilities:
Primary responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Setting a Strategy and Goals
 Articulate a vision and set ambitious goals for recruitment in your region and portfolio
Build your team
 Work with the RM to attract, interview, and directly manage a team of 20-30 Campaign
Leaders (College/Corporate or both), Fellows from your region in the Fellowship
Recruitment Committee and interns to help with on the ground efforts at colleges and
corporates
Research your market and secure Partnerships
 Who is your target audience? What’s the best value-proposition for them?
 Which colleges/corporates do the most promising applicants attend/work at? Who are the
leaders on these colleges and corporates?
 Are their local constraints you should be aware of?
Develop the Brand and Marketing Plan
 Print media: partner with local newspapers, magazines
 Secure radio, television, video, film partnerships
 Initiate tie-ups with youth hubs around the city
Use a Data-Driven Approach
 Constantly examine application data and analyze trends and translate them into next steps
to meet the desired outcomes
Invest high potential candidates
 Changing mindsets in this country can be a difficult endeavor. You will establish a plan to
inform, inspire, and invest applicants, their families, CSR heads, placement heads, heads of
departments at a college, etc.
Partner with other verticals
 City Team - understand the Teach For India vision in your city/region and collaborate with
them to drive Recruitment jointly
 Selection – Review the application forms and conduct phone reviews of our applicants with
their guidance
 Communications – leverage our marketing team for branding
Compel the larger Teach For India One Team family
 Effectively compel Fellows, staff, and alums to participate effectively in Recruitment
Adapt and Exemplify the Teach For India culture
 You are the face of TFI: project the brand internally and externally
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
 Belief that every single child deserves an excellent education and that every single child has
the ability to be successful academically, despite their background
 Exceptional written and oral communication skills in English
 Excellent interpersonal, public-speaking and presentation skills
 Ability to effectively interface with multiple audiences, internal teams and stakeholders
while presenting complex ideas clearly and in an engaging manner
 Commitment to executing a complex plan in an entrepreneurial environment
 Superior project management and organization skills
 Demonstrated proficiency in using data to drive decisions: analyzing numbers and trends
and critically thinking so as to use data to decide on next steps
 Strong time management skills and remain flexible in order to accommodate multiple
projects simultaneously, with tight deadlines
 Entrepreneurial attitude: working independently while also being a team player
 Strong work ethic and sense of possibility
 Data-driven and results oriented, purpose-over-process approach to work
 Ability to travel extensively (intra and inter-city) and adopt flexible timings (especially
during “cycle season” from July-Feb)
 Demonstrated self-starting abilities: able to be resourceful, take responsibility and find
effective solutions to problems
 Demonstrated ability to learn and adapt quickly to a new work stream and culture
Education and Experience:
 1-3 years of relevant work experience, preferably leading a team to success
 Experience as a Teach For India Fellow. Not required, but strongly desired
 Previous experience working in a multicultural environment and is sensitive to the
diversity of our target population
 Previous experience working hard in a deadline-oriented, target-driven environment with
respect for process and professionalism: able to keep himself/herself, as well as the team,
calm during high-stress periods
