General Information
1. Please submit your abstract online. See instructions on the next page.
2. E-mail required attachments (MS Word or pdf file format) to conference coordinator, Suzanne
Hull at Suzanne@contemporary-business-solutons.com.
3. Abstract submissions are open to the public. Membership in IPHA, ICPHA or IEHA is not
required.
4. All presenters must register for the Conference and assume responsibility for their own
transportation and lodging.
5. If selected, conference registration fee will be waived for the day of the scheduled presentation
for up to three concurrent session presenters and up to two presenters per poster session.
6. See registration information on the conference website.
7. There is no limit on the number of abstracts registrants may submit. However, authors must be in
attendance for their presentations.
8. Audiovisual equipment must be requested in advance.
Selection Criteria
1. Authors are encouraged to submit abstracts on current and emerging public health issues. Topics
of particular interest (but not restricted to) includes:
 Accountable Care Communities, connecting public health to other sectors
 Environmental health issues
 Food systems
 LGBT and minority health
 Social determinants of health
 Infectious disease control
 Public health advocacy
 Accreditation – strategic planning, quality improvement, workforce development, performance
management
2. Presentation descriptions should be 250 words or less.
3. Interactive, scientific presentations that promote audience discussion are encouraged.
4. Innovative programs that reach beyond traditional health and environmental circles to collaborate
with other disciplines are encouraged.
5. Results should be summarized. Do not use tables or graphs.
Abstract Submission
Abstracts submitted for the Iowa Governor’s Conference on Public Health will be evaluated for
acceptance by the Conference Planning Committee. Please be sure to follow the Submission Guide and
submission instructions carefully; failure to do so may result in rejection. Information in the abstract must
not have been previously published in a copyrighted journal.

Abstract submission opens August 15, 2014 and must be received no later than October 10, 2014. Use
the online application. You will receive an email confirming receipt of your submission. All
correspondence will be made with the person who submits the abstract.

Presentation Formats
Oral
A number of oral presentations will be slotted for each 60 minute session. PowerPoint presentations will
be expected to be loaded onto the conference laptops prior to the session. Presenters are encouraged to
allot time for audience questions and comments.
Poster
Freestanding horizontal poster boards will be provided for presenting posters. Poster presentation surface
area is 4”h x 8”w. Handouts may be used, but audiovisual equipment will not be available.
Extended Presentation/Workshop
A few time slots on Tuesday, April 14 will be available for 90 minute sessions. This should include
presentation time followed by hands-on application or workshops.
Note: Presenters should indicate their preference for presentation. The Planning Committee will make the
final decision on presentation format based on quality of abstract and the needs of the Conference.

The abstract proposal application process for concurrent oral, extended presentation/workshop
and poster sessions requires completion of the following steps by October 10, 2014:
