High School Gifted Program – The Bellevue School District offers a one-of-a-kind
Gifted High School Program (GHSP) at Interlake High School for students placing in the 98 th percentile in measures of cognitive ability and performance. As a cohort, these students undertake rigorous and skills-appropriate core subjects that challenge them to explore topics deeply in a world context. The students complete the IB
Diploma Program in grades 10 and 11, leaving senior year for courses taught at IHS by college instructors from the UW Robinson Center for Young Scholars and an internship. While rigorous, the program is designed to encourage participation in normal high school electives, sports, clubs and other activities. The goal is to give students a full, age-appropriate experience while helping them to achieve social, physical, and emotional balance and health.
Running Start - This Washington State program allows high school juniors and seniors to enroll in college classes that earn both high school and college credit.
Interlake High School students most commonly attend Bellevue College.
GRADING AND RANKING
Interlake High School assigns letter grades using a 4.0 system. No “+” or “-” are included on the official transcript or calculated into the GPA. All credited classes are included in computing grade point average and class rank. Credits earned elsewhere are noted with the “TR” symbol preceding the course name. Class rank is computed in
January and June using weighted, final grades in all subjects. Two class ranks are used at Interlake: One rank compares the cumulative weighted GPA’s of the entire class; One rank compares the cumulative weighted GPA’s of the class excluding the students in the Gifted Program. Class rank will be communicated in the student’s letter of recommendation, not the secondary school report.
