MCAS Alternate Assessment (MCAS-Alt)
Fall 2015 Training for Educators and Administrators
A series of half-day training sessions will be conducted for teachers and administrators regarding the
2016 MCAS-Alt for students with significant disabilities.
Morning sessions for teachers will include the following presentations:


“Introduction to MCAS-Alt” for first time teachers conducting the MCAS-Alt
(8:30 a.m.–12:30 p.m.)
“Updates for 2016 MCAS-Alt” for teachers with experience conducting MCAS-Alt
(8:30 a.m.–noon), including sessions on:
 “What’s New and Notable for 2016 MCAS-Alt?”
 “How to Submit a Complete Portfolio”
AND concurrent sessions on:
 “New ELAWriting Requirements and How It Will Be Scored” for teachers of
students at all levels (i.e., entry points and access skills)
 “Grade-Level (grades 3-8) and High School Competency Portfolios” for
teachers working with students working at grade-level expectations
Teachers are encouraged to bring a fully-charged laptop computer or tablet to the training, if possible.
Digital materials will be provided on a flash drive for review during these sessions .
PLUS, afternoon sessions for Administrators who supervise teachers submitting the MCAS-Alt
(during Week 2 only, from 1:30–3:00 p.m.), including the following topics:






Who should take the MCAS-Alt?
Roles and responsibilities of administrators regarding MCAS-Alt
Monitoring teachers’ progress on the MCAS-Alt
Things to look for in order to avoid scores of Incomplete
Portfolio contents
New developments and related assessment topics for students with disabilities

How to Register:
Registration is conducted on the MCAS Service Center website. Click on “MCAS Alternate Assessment,” then
“Registration for Training.” Register early since attendance is limited at each site. Please complete your
registration by September 22. Directions are provided on the registration site. This flyer is also available
online. If you have difficulty registering, please contact the MCAS Service Center at 800-737-5103.
