Job Title:
Information Services & Technology Manager
(2 Year Fixed-Contract)
Responsible to:
Bursar
Purpose of Job:
Responsible for the management and operations of a smallscale data centre providing a full platform stack from: networks,
storage and computing, through to virtualisation, provisioning
and automation both locally within the data centre,
collaboratively across the Cambridge UCS provided Granta
Backbone Network, Janet Internet and public cloud services.
Continual improvement of IS systems and support services in
line with industry best practice and technology industry trends.
Duties & Responsibilities:
 The provision of all computer hardware and software services for cost effective
administration and reporting.

Networking, security and firewall provision.

Virtualisation, terminal services and shared service hosting infrastructures.

Overall responsibility for on time service and helpdesk requests (including email,
telephony and desktop support, and service management).

Database and metadata management.

Web system development.

Deliver workshops, training sessions and showcase new technologies,
applications and services including communicating technical subjects to a nontechnical audience.

Managing, delegating of duties to, mentoring and training of other IS staff.

Provision of out of office hour’s support subject to an on call rota.

Responsibility for maintaining up-to-date documentation with respect to: systems
management, operations management, management of risk and user policy; the
latter in-line with the Corpus IT Strategy and industry best practice.

Periodically review and propose updates to the short-term (operational themes)
and longer term (strategic/epic) planning.

Essential emphasis on data integrity and retention (backup/restore), disaster
recovery procedures and business continuity.

Implementing the Information Systems strategies, as discrete projects, defined by
the College EB and GB.

Attending all College IT Committee meetings and actively participate in
Cambridge Colleges’ Computer Manager’s Group meetings.

purchasing decisions in line with the approved supplier list and University
framework agreements.

Maintain an up-to-date skills set through self-development and structured training



Knowledge/Qualifications
Educated to degree level or equivalent, ITILv3 Systems Management, MCSE
qualified.

Extensive experience of Information Systems and IT infrastructure
management.

Competent management of systems implementations and on-time project
delivery.

A proven track record of team leadership, motivation and mentoring.

Able to provide high quality Information Systems services to: Fellows,
Students, Staff and guests of Corpus Christi College.

Experienced to make effective utilisation of third party suppliers and
framework agreements.

Experienced in developing strategies to implement business plans.

A motivated and approachable communicator capable of building
collaborative and open working relationships within Corpus Christi College,
the wider Cambridge University Computing Service (UCS) and associated
Cambridge University IT departments, and professionals working in
computing departments of other Cambridge University Colleges.

Able to take action in anticipation of issues to ensure a seamless end-toend service is delivered.

Key Technical Skills Required

Server Operating Systems: Microsoft Server 2003, 2008, 2012, Ubuntu, Debian.

PC Operating Systems: Microsoft Windows XP, 7, 8, Mac OS X.

Tablets and phones: Apple iPhone, iPad, Android.

Virtualisation: VMware ESX.

Networking: IPv4, IPv6, routing, VLAN, switching, firewalls, DNS, DHCP, WiFi access
points, 802.1X, PKI Certificates, 3Com OS, Cisco IOS, VPN/UAG, RealVNC.

Peripherals: Networked multifunction printer/scanners, Axis CCTV IP cameras, VoIP
telephony.

Applications: Microsoft Office for Windows: 2003, 2007, 2010, 2013, Microsoft Office
for Mac 2011, Microsoft Office365.

Services: WordPress Web Server, file and print servers, SQL databases, directory
services, identity and access management, Active Directory, Microsoft System Centre,
BYOD and scripting language knowledge of PHP would be advantageous.
