May is upon us and where have
the first four months of the year
gone? I would like to thank all the
Brother Knights that took part in
the tootsie roll drive. I do not
have the totals at the time of
writing this, but we are looking
like we should be pretty close to
last year’s numbers and are
around $5,500 again. We have a
few things coming up. The May
12th meeting will be election of
officers, the June 9th meeting will
be at St Olaf's and we will be
having the Silver Rose Program please bring your families and
friends, and then June's social will
be the Annual Steak Fry and
installation of Officers.
To go with the election of officers I
would like to take this time to
thank our Officer Committee of
Jerry Olson, Jerry Whalen, Tom
Kempen, Mark Aebly, and Tim
Carroll. I know you have taken
great time and effort in your
nominations of next year’s
officers.
Vivat Jesus!

The 2015 Silver Rose Program
Beginning in April 2015, six Silver
Roses will begin their journey
across North America, from
Canada to the United States to
Mexico. The 2015 Our Lady of
Guadalupe Silver Rose - One Life,
One Rose Program will conclude
on December 12, 2015 on the
Feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe,
Patroness of the Americas, at the
Basilica of Our Lady of Guadalupe
in Monterrey, Mexico. 2015 marks
the 55th year of the program
which began in 1960 as a project
of the Columbian Squires of North
America to honor the Blessed
Virgin under her title of Our Lady
of Guadalupe, Patroness of the
Americas. The program has
continued since then as a project
of Columbian Squires circles,
councils and Fourth Degree
assemblies in several jurisdictions.
State Raffle: Our total sales were
832 tickets which works out to
2.82 tickets per member. That is
down from 2013-14 results of 901
tickets and 3.45 per member. If
we don't sell, our major charity
raising activity suffers and we
can't help as many people.
Thank you to those who stepped
up and sold their tickets especially
the top three sellers: Tied at
selling 91 tickets each - Mark
Aebly and Paul Lokken, and third
with 53 tickets, Dallas Short.
Tootsie Rolls. We don’t always do
a good job telling people what we
do with the money we raise
(about $5,500 this year) so here is
how it breaks down. About 20% of
the money we raise is taken by the
State Council and that money goes
directly to Intellectual Disability
programs that are supported on

the state level. The State Council
has a grant application process
that Intellectual Disabilities groups
can apply for money. Of the
money left over we (the council)
split the money evenly at 30%
each to the following: Wisconsin
Indianhead Special Olympics, Eau
Claire Adult Special Olympics and
Reach Incorporated in Eau Claire.
The remainder of the money is
given to Wisconsin Badger Camp
for the Intellectually Disabled. A
majority of the money raised stays
in the Chippewa Valley, all the
money stays in the state and all of
the money collected from this
council goes to Intellectual
Disabilities as we use our funds to
buy the candy.
Saturday May 9 Postal Food Drive
for St Francis Food Pantry. Postal
pick-up for the hungry and St.
Francis Food Pantry is the
recipient of this event. Our
council has several Knights that
donate their time every week for
this needy cause. At this food
drive the pantry will receive
approximately 20,000 pounds of
food. The food needs to be sorted
and stocked. They are in need of
our help! The shifts they need
help are from 10:30-1:30, 1:304:30 and 4:30 until finish. Please
call Cliff Bowman 715-832-0320 or
Jerry Olson 715-834-1320 if you
can help. REMEMBER OUR 1ST
PRINCIPLE CHARITY!
Here is the statewide recap of last
year’s program. The 2014 program
raised in excess of $655,000.00.
Local councils distributed in their
immediate area over $445,000 of
these funds to local groups and
organization that assist the
intellectually disabled. The State
Committee will have available an
additional $150,000 to distribute
through grant applications.
Tuesday May 12 Regular Business
Meeting and Election of Council
Officers. The meeting will begin at
7pm at the council hall and we will
also elect the council officers for
the 2015-2016 fraternal year. We
will also vote on a motion to
donate $600 to Kourtney Kuba
Eau Claire Deanery Youth
Minister. She has asked us to help
sponsor a trip to a Steubenville
Youth Conference for students of
the Deanery. We have 9 youth
who will be attending from the
Eau Claire parishes. The cost is
$600 per student to attend.
Organizations that work with
People with Intellectual
Disabilities are encouraged to
submit applications for these
funds to the Wisconsin State
Knights of Columbus.
What a great Program!
