PURPOSE

Assist the Architecture & Assurance Manager in the development of and actively supporting delivery of the agreed Business Services and Corporate strategy to enable safe and efficient delivery of the regulatory contract.

To provide governance and assurance which ensures that the resulting solutions are complete (fit for Purpose), technically viable and are aligned to business objectives

To provide technical vision and stewardship on IS projects and programmes, by engaging with business units to conform to strategic technical blueprints and reference architectures. This will assure compliance with the IS principles, policies and standards using appropriate frameworks and promoting the governance model with which to enforce them.

Develop long-term trusted business and technical relationships with stakeholders and decision makers at all levels and responsible for promoting the vision and direction of the enterprise architecture within the business.

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES

Contributes to effective governance of the Enterprise Architecture through the development of policies and standards

Active participant in the architectural governance board (Design Authority) through which ENWL will review all IS/IT investments and significant change initiatives at the enterprise level.

Capture the structure and dynamics of the enterprise architecture through the population of taxonomies, diagrams, documents and models. Maintains design and metadata repositories for integrating all aspects of these models and provides support of its use in conjunction with integrated toolsets.

Responsible for the shaping and development of feasibility studies, proof of concepts and business solutions to ensure they are fit for purpose and allow for seamless integration with the enterprise architecture.

ROLE PROFILE

To manage the development, implementation and transition into support of new IT and Telecoms projects. This will involve assuring designs, installation, commissioning and maintenance of all services, infrastructure and systems.

Dependant on the volume, size and complexity of planned initiatives, the Technical

Architect will at times be expected to provide end-to-end design input, including the creation of high-level and low-level designs.

Responsible for ensuring the enterprise ar chitecture continuously maximises ROI’s through repeatable design strategies and patterns that enable those qualities (e.g. adaptability, scalability, availability, non-repudiation, reusability, etc.). Includes continuous reviews of the as-is estate to identify and drive enhancements and efficiencies where ever possible.

Assists in the selection and evaluation of vendor products targeted for possible integration into the systems or environment, including strategic applications, tools, and utilities. Analyses technology industry and market trends and determines the potential impact on the enterprise.

Contributes to the development of technology refresh and enhancement roadmaps capable of maximising the return on investment. To be achieved as part of the ongoing technology / trend analysis and continuous reviews of the enterprise estate, in conjunction with business transformation.

Interprets and anal ysis’s statistical / trend data in order to understand its impact on the IS systems & services, to allow informed architectural decisions at an enterprise level.

Contributes to the IS strategy, road maps and Investment plans through consultation with the wider architecture and strategy teams.

Supports the Enterprise Architecture methodology and framework to provide effective governance, and enable effective enterprise level / strategic decision making to take place.

Refines and improves architectural assurance processes to enable the delivery of IT solutions as efficiently as possible.

Evaluates statistical / trending data at the enterprise level to ensure service continuity and mitigate against service interruptions.

Delivery of targeted efficiencies through effective solutions architecture design principles / governance and continuous improvements of the enterprise architecture.

This role is a IS Services position reporting to the Architecture & Assurance

Manager, a member of the IS Services team and two layers removed from the

Business Services Director. It is expected that the Architecture and Assurance Team

Member will deputise for the Architecture and Assurance Manager on occasion.

Contribute to the enterprise architecture capability and governance to support the

IT&T Operational budgets of circa 15.2M

Responsible for assuring IT solutions against the Enterprise Architecture capability and governance structure to support the Operational and Non-Operational IT systems, Telecoms and infrastructure with over 1,600 PC’s and 500 servers; supporting over 150 business applications.

Responsible for delivery assurance of operational IT & Telecoms projects up to circa

£10M budget value

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS

(e.g. Specific industry or technical / professional / educational qualifications, key competencies, skills, behaviours or experience needed to satisfy full requirements of the role)

The individual must demonstrate a strong sense of corporate responsibility, actively promoting the company’s stated aims both from a financial and cultural perspective.

Excellent inter-personal skills that can be demonstrated through the ability to challenge constructively.

Excellent communication skills both written and verbal, with the ability to describe technical issues in a non technical way, but be able to delve into lower level detail as required.

Able to keep up to date with market trends, products and services with a view to highlighting potential benefits to the business. Good working knowledge of current and emerging technologies, with an understanding of what can and cannot be achieved.

Have experience working in a capability and governance structure (Design Authority) assessing all elements of enterprise architecture and delivery assurance.

Knowledge of Enterprise Architecture and using frameworks / methodologies such as

TOGAF or Zachman and architectural concepts such as Service Orientated

Architecture (SOA), Software as a Server (SaaS), Platform as a Service (PaaS) etc.

Proven experience in a similar sized organisation required, and UK Electricity

Industry experience is desirable.

Comprehensive knowledge of the ENWL business activities and its competitive and regulatory environment.

Degree level qualification required, preferably in an IT discipline.

Experience of ITIL and possessing knowledge of ITIL standards.

Experience of PRINCE 2 or a similar project management framework is desirable.
