Jenkins, a native of New Jersey and graduate of Piscataway High School, will host a free youth football camp June 22-23 at Piscataway High School from 9a.m-3p.m. Registration is now open, and youth between the ages of 7-17 are encouraged to sign up for this non-contact youth camp that will also include Jenkins and other NFL players as guest coaches and speakers. Space is limited. “I am excited to host a football youth camp for the kids in my hometown.” said Jenkins. “To have the opportunity to teach the fundamentals of the game, and to offer motivating and technical advice on the same field where I cultivated my skill and love for the game, is a special honor for me.” Jenkins is a graduate of Piscataway High School (2005) and The Ohio State University (2009, B.A. Communications). He is the recipient of the Jim Thorpe Award, which recognizes and awards the nation’s best collegiate defensive back. He is the 2nd award winner from The Ohio State University in the 23 years of Thorpe award recipients. In 2009, Jenkins was selected in the first round of the NFL draft (14th overall), by the New Orleans Saints. In his rookie season, he helped to lead the team to a historic Super Bowl win, the first in the franchise’s 40-year history. As a member of the New Orleans Saints, Jenkins has been very active in the local community participating and speaking at various community and public service events that are focused on enriching and enhancing the lives of youth and teens. In the New Orleans community, Jenkins has become known for his passion and commitment in helping youth and teens develop leadership and service skills through mentoring and public service. Jenkins was named the 2011 New Orleans Saints NFL Player of the Year. In early May, Jenkins joined President Bill Clinton in recognizing the high school graduates of the Urban League of Greater New Orleans College Track Program. Jenkins awarded scholarships, on behalf of his Foundation, to deserving young people in pursuit of higher learning.
