The New York State Council of Health-system Pharmacists Pine West Plaza Building 2 Washington Avenue Extension Albany, NY 12205 (518) 456-8819 Fax: (518) 456-9319 ASHP Residency Learning System Workshop Turning Stone, Verona, NY ACPE Activity #204-000-08-291-L04P Activity Description 8.0 contact hours This workshop will prepare residency program directors and preceptors to meet the requirements for the design, delivery, and evaluation of training specified in the ASHP Accreditation Standard for Postgraduate Year One (PGY1) Pharmacy Residency Programs and ASHP Accreditation Standard for Postgraduate Year Two (PGY2) Residency Programs through use of the Residency Learning System (RLS). Participants will work on the design of their own residency programs. The workshop includes practical, hands-on experience in applying each of the nine steps of the RLS. Program objectives include: Identify a residency program’s purpose, structure and desired outcomes. Select and assign educational goals and objectives to specific learning experiences. Designate learning activities for a given learning experience and write a learning experience descriptor. Establish your residency program assessment strategy, design an assessment strategy for a specified learning experience and design an evaluation tool. Develop a customized plan for a specified resident. In given cases and scenarios, apply effective precepting skills, including orientation, clinical teaching, giving effective feedback, monitoring and conducting evaluations. Identify elements of an effective residency quality improvement program. Participants should bring their program materials (outcomes, evaluations, structure, etc.) to the workshop to achieve the greatest benefit. We will utilize them throughout the workshop.
