Who is Coach Tribble? Coach Katie Tribble began her career in Columbia, South Carolina studying ballet, tap, jazz and lyrical. At twelve, Coach Tribble auditioned and was accepted into the pre-professional classical ballet and modern dance training program at the South Carolina Governor’s School for the Arts and Humanities (“the Governors School”) in Greenville, South Carolina. There, she studied the eight-level Vaganova technique system and the Graham, Horton, Limon and Cunningham techniques. After graduation, Coach Tribble attended the University of South Carolina and began studying the Balanchine and Graham technique. There, she danced with the USC Dance Company. Following college, Coach Tribble attended law school and co-founded a nonprofit professional relations company Charleston Dance Alliance focused on promoting dance in South Carolina. Most recently, she has become well affiliated with the local competitive dance studios, has choreographed for several musicals, and taught at Brockman Elementary. During her free time Coach Tribble enjoys practicing yoga, reading, and spending time outdoors with her husband, two dogs and chickens! 3 b. What does it mean to be apart of the LMDC Being a member of the LMDC is an honor. Members will be afforded the unique opportunity to further develop their own selfidentities through the study of different dance techniques, improvisational exercises, and performance opportunities. If selected, members will represent the Lexington Middle School Dance Program. As a member of the LMDC, that means you have auditioned and agreed to participate in the mandatory summer dance camps, practices and performances. i. Behavior LMDC members must abide by all LMS rules as well as any applicable Dance Program guidelines. ii. Participation All LMDC members are required to attend mandatory practices and remain respectful of Coach Tribble at all times. Showing respect means arriving on time -dressed out, no talking during class/rehearsal-unless specifically called upon, always giving your best effort and remaining the entire rehearsal. iii. Practices LMDC will rehearse every Wednesday from 3:45- 5 p.m. Attendance at these rehearsals is mandatory in order to prepare for upcoming performances and competitions. During rehearsal, Coach Tribble will occasionally bring in a guest artist to teach or choreograph on the company. Further, a tumbling coach will be 4 brought in to help develop applicable skills. (i.e. limbers, lifts, aerials etc). *A release form must be signed and returned to Coach Tribble before a LMDC member is permitted to work with the tumbling instructor. *An excused absence is permissible in cases of emergencies or when Coach Tribble has granted prior approval. iv. Dress Coach Tribble’s #1 rule is long hair must always have their hair pulled up. It may be pulled into bun, ponytail, loose twist, braid etc - but it must be out of the face and off the neck, please!!! LMDC members must always be dressed appropriately in accordance with their surrounding environment. Upon entering the new studio classroom, students must take off their shoes in order to maintain the integrity of (by next school year) the newly placed floors. Dance floors are very intricate to the art of dance and very expensive. Therefore, unless they are dance shoes no shoes will be allowed in. “Studio wear” (leotards, jazz shorts, dance shoes etc) are permissible in the studio as long as they serve a function. However, it is up to Coach Tribble’s (and LMS Administration) discretion whether something is appropriate or not and that decision must be respected – all such decisions are made with the best interest of the LMDC member in mind. Alternatively, students may also wear loose fitting/easy to move in clothes. LMDC members will be given time to change out of their studio wear and back into their regular school clothes before returning to their regularly scheduled classes. Hoodies and Cardigans are always nice to slip on after rehearsals. 5 **Further, LMDC members will be asked to purchase a team warm up jacket. These jackets are for their personal use and will be embroidered with their names on them. More information will be provided as to pricing, sizing, and appearance during this summer’s dance camp. v. Parent and Student Communication If selected, LMDC members are required to have their parent(s) or guardian(s) fill out and sign their parent communication form located at the back of this packet. Coach Tribble often communicates via e-mail and requires students and parents to stay informed and connected. To help with the communication process, she will send out a monthly e-mail containing important dates and reminders. Parents, please confirm that you receive this information. vi. Performances and Competitions As a LMDC member you have been selected and have agreed to participate in all performances and competitions. The precise dates of these events will be available to you during the summer as those plans develop. II. Mandatory Parent Informational Meeting It is very important that parents are apart of the process and I highly encourage your involvement and volunteerism. As such, I will be holding two informational meetings to further acquaint myself with you all and answer any questions. Please plan to attend one if your child chooses to audition.
