HARVEST FESTIVAL: SUNDAY OCTOBER 4th

Everyone is welcome to join in any or all of our Harvest celebrations:

10.45am: Harvest service at All Saints & 4.00pm: Songs of Harvest Praise at Methodist Church

5.00pm: Harvest Ploughman's tea in Methodist Church Hall (Tickets £3 from Violet Timms 712431)

Your Harvest gifts will be gratefully received. Gifts of fruit, vegetables and produce will be sold after the

Ploughman's tea and the proceeds, together with the cash collections from both services, will be sent to the

Disasters Emergency Committee. Gifts of non-perishable food will be taken to the Banbury Young

Homelessness Project, where their shelves are waiting hopefully for breakfast cereals and long-life milk, pasta and pasta sauces, biscuits, crackers, tuna, tinned ham, noodles, small juices, cartons of drink, long life pudding type items, cans of fruit, sausages etc (ALL CANS WITH RING PULL TOPS PLEASE as often these young people have limited access to kitchen utensils). In fact, any long life store cupboard items that can provide sustenance and nutrition to a hungry young person will be greatly appreciated and well used, although tins and packets of soup are

NOT needed as they have plenty of those items left. A million thank you’s for your generous support of such a worthwhile project. If you cannot make the harvest services t here are boxes in the choir stalls if anyone wishes to bring their non-perishable food items earlier.

REGULAR GIVING - A REMINDER - As Regular Giving forms the core of our Church finances, this is a reminder for those parishioners who are not already in one of our two available schemes which are:-

Peterborough Scheme - This scheme involves making a monthly standing order payment to the Peterborough

Diocesan Board of Finance (PDBF) for the benefit of All Saints. The great advantage of this scheme from our point of view is that PDBF collects this Gift Aid Tax Repayment on a monthly basis from HMRC and pays this to us, together with the total of all monthly Standing Orders in a monthly lump sum. This scheme is particularly ideal for those parishioners who are in a position to GIFT AID their contributions to All Saints (essentially they must be tax payers). Weekly Envelope Scheme - This scheme has been in existence for many years and is used by nearly 30 parishioners. Contributions can still be GIFT AIDED, but the relevant tax repayment can only be collected in arrears at the end of the financial year. Should anyone be interested in joining one of the above schemes, I would be very happy to arrange an appointment to discuss it further and deal with the necessary documentation . John

Stimpson (Treasurer), 01295 760094

Thank you ! to all Riders & Striders, and Sitters, and Sponsors who enabled us to raise £ 168 this year for Northants

Historic Churches Trust. Half the money raised is returned to our church, the other half supports NHCTs grant aid to the fabric of places of worship. Special thanks to Sue & Bob who visited 12 churches, and their sponsors, who together raised £ 148 of the total.

REFUGEE AID - Over last week we at All Saints, together with churches and other organisations in

Brackley, Buckingham and surrounding areas, have been collecting specific goods to send on a lorry to Athens for onward distribution to refugees. There is still time to donate and we would love you to bring any of the following items - Nappies, sanitary towels, baby food (no glass please!), toothpaste, toothbrushes, new handtowels - to All

Saints at our Harvest Service. The goods will be collected from All Saints on Monday 5th October and taken on the first stage of their journey. Many thanks for your support

CHURCH ROOF RESTORATION - At its meeting on 15 September the PCC agreed to commission the architect

Bryan Martin, who carried out our recent Quinquennial Review, to supervise a detailed assessment of the church roof by lead specialists. He will subsequently assist the church in making a grant application to the Heritage Lottery

Fund, which will need to include a detailed costed proposal of the proposed works. We will also have to put forward a plan of how we would open up the church building to more and different people, in order to justify any grant investment by the Heritage Lottery Fund. Bryan will be making a short presentation on the state of the roof and the requirements of the grant application, after the morning service on Sunday 11 October. A copy of the Quinquennial Review, containing photos of the problems with the roof is on the shelf below the church noticeboard. The associated costs of making the grant application, currently estimated as £2,000, will be borne by our church fabric fund. Replacing and repairing the lead is likely to cost in excess of a quarter of a million pounds.

English Heritage are highly unlikely to agree to substituting the lead with any alternative roofing material.

OPERATION CHRISTMAS CHILD 2015 - SHOEBOXES BURSTING WITH JOY - Please join in with us to support this project run annually by Samaritan’s Purse – it’s easy and rewarding! Perhaps you’d like to do a box with a friend or colleague? You just need a medium size adult shoebox (approx 7” x 12” x 5”), wrap the lid and base separately, then fill with suitable new goodies either for a boy or girl in one of three age groups: 2-4 years, 5-9 years or 10-14 years; and include a donation of £3.00 to cover distribution costs (can be paid ‘on-line’ to Samaritan’s Purse). Or come along to help at one of our popular ‘Wrap & Fill’ sessions: Saturdays 31 st October & 14 th November, from 9.30am to 2pm,in the

Methodist Schoolrooms, Queen Street, Middleton Cheney, OX17 2NP. You will be very welcome to help at one or both sessions. We welcome contributions of goodies, empty shoeboxes, and money donations towards the cost of getting the boxes to the needy children. Coffee / tea & cake mornings will also be held during both days for anyone who would like to drop in for a while – all donations will go towards the shoe boxes. Leaflets with full details of how to do a shoe box, including a list of suitable items, are available from All Saints and Methodist churches, the Library & The Butler’s Pantry, which are also ‘Drop-off Points’ during their normal opening times; or please call Mary Phipps on 712894 or Carol Souch on 275334. Final date for dropping off completed shoeboxes is Wednesday 18th November.

Working Party Convened by Meeting Details CHURCH PLANNING DAY

We will be holding a church planning day on Saturday 24 th

October 2015. We would love as many people as possible to be involved so please make a note of the date and more details will follow in due course. Prior to the planning day the PCC thought it would be good to have working parties to look at various aspects of church life and have therefore set up the groups as shown. The aim is that these groups will investigate the various aspects of church life and feed back their thinking and planning to date at the planning day on the

24 th October and to stimulate further discussion. If you would like to be involved in any of these working parties or if you have any comments or suggestions then please speak to the PCC members indicated by the groups. Each group will be aiming to set up an initial meeting for those interested and will be publicising the dates of those meetings as soon as possible. If you are interested in being at any of these meetings please let the group leaders know as soon as possible. Groups with Meetings greyed out have now met – if you have any comments please let the group leaders know.
