School students attend lectures, labs and tutorials and undertake course assessment. Courses in Humanities and Social Sciences, Computer Science and Physics (all under specified conditions), Economics, Education and Forestry are available by distance. Courses that are completed successfully are credited towards the student's degree when they subsequently enrol at Canterbury. Credit transfer can be applied for should a student who has completed a STAR course enrol at another university. The Centre is committed to applying best standards for its high quality tests, questionnaires, analysis and indicator systems. One key activity is the measurement of pupil progress (value added) with clear graphical feedback and comparisons against thousands of other students throughout New Zealand. A second key activity is development, marking and analysis of the assessments in English, Maths and Reasoning Skills, designed for entrance into Year 7 or Year 9.
