“God loved the birds and invented trees. Man loved the birds and invented cages.” ~Jacques Deval. A puppy mill is a large scale breeding operation. The breeders (or puppy millers) are irresponsible and don’t care about producing healthy puppies. The dogs are never let out of the cage and have no contact or comfort from humans. The puppy millers aren’t even allowed to run puppy mills, they are continuing to break the law. Puppy mills are created for money and nothing else. Puppy millers think of their dogs as agricultural “crops” instead of pets. And guess what happens to the mother and father dogs when they are too sick to have any more puppies? They will be killed because they can’t make the breeders any more money. I am against puppy mills because not only are they a form of animal cruelty but they leave the dogs with health and physical problems. I think Puppy mills are form of animal cruelty. Mother and father dogs are never let out of their cage. They are in such bad condition that they don’t even look like dogs! They are kept in wired cages that cause paw and leg injuries. Dog’s legs are often ripped off because their legs get caught on the wiring. The dog’s hair get matted, their gums rot, and there are several dogs in each cage. The fine for being caught running a puppy mill is only about $1000. Because of puppy mills, dogs have problems. The dogs can hurt you, be unsociable, not trust anyone, or be very territorial. Also, dogs from puppy mills have a bigger chance of getting diseases and illnesses including heart worms, eye problems, gum problems, and tumors. Dogs are often sent to pet stores when they are already sick. The operations that the dogs will probably need are a waste of time and money. Many people can’t afford the extra care that dogs from puppy mills will need. The dogs from puppy mills are brought to pet stores where people don’t know the terrible conditions that the dogs were in. when you adopt a dog from a pet store you are contributing to keep puppy mills running. Buying a dog is not helping him/her. The dog will eventually get a good home, but now we just need to adopt dogs from shelters instead of buying them from pet stores. The pet store employees will lie about where the dogs are from and what conditions they were in, and if they say that they are from a breeder that doesn’t matter because puppy millers are breeders! Don’t trust things like “We know the breeder or “The dogs are raised on a farm.” If you want to buy a dog from a pet store, ask an employee for the dog’s papers with its breeder and origins. If the employee won’t show you the papers, don’t buy a dog there. Also, people are still buying dogs from pet stores even though they shouldn’t Buying a dog from a pet store just leaves another space for another dog from a puppy mill. So break the cycle and adopt don’t shop. Puppy mills should not be running. They should have been shut down a long time ago! Puppy millers are still breaking the law. Do you want a dog who’s breeder doesn’t care about it and only wants your money? I wish that everyone would work together and not buy dogs from pet stores unless you are positive that they aren’t from puppy mills. That would finally put an end to puppy mills. Shutting puppy mills down will not be easy, but you can make it easier by adopting dogs from shelters instead of buying them from pet stores. This is why puppy mills should not be running.
