This will be avoided by providing good ventilation in the animal shed. Avoid grazing of sheep and goat near lake and ponds to reduce fluke infestation. During day time farmers are advised to sprinkle water to high yielding dairy cows 2 or 3 time to reduce heat stress. Due to increase in day temperature animals should not be allowed for grazing during hot part of the day, provide cool drinking water and shade to the animals to reduce heat stress. Farmers are advised to withdraw the feed for the poultry during hot part of the day to avoid heat stroke and provide cool drinking water. Bacterial leaf blight and false smut incidence was found in rice, farmers can take proper plant protection measures and spray copper hydroxide @ 2.5g/litre. Brown spot incidence was found in paddy crop. Hence farmers are advised to spray mancozeb (2.0g/lit) 2 or 3 times at 10-15 days intervals. Due to dry weather conditions incidence of sucking pest will be more in vegetables. Hence spray neem seed kernal extract 5 per cent to control white fly and jassids incidence in bhendi, brinjal and tomato. As the sky is expected to be cloudy, there may be chances for the spread of blister blight in tea, the growers are requested to spray copper oxy chloride 85 g + tilt 80 ml/ac to control the blister blight in tea. NAMAKKAL , SALEM, DARMAPURI & KRISHNAGIRI For next four days, the sky will be generally cloudy with chance of scattered rainfall over the district. Maximum and minimum temperature will be reduced to around 37.0C (98.6F) and 24.0C (75.2F) respectively. Average wind speed will be reduced to 3 km/hour, mostly from southeast direction. Relative humidity will be increased and range from 42 to 90 %. Expected summer showers bring down maximum day time temperature and temporarily give relief from summer stress in animals and poultry. Summer showers at times may bring lightning and elevated wind speed. Hence farmers are advised to take precautionary measures to protect animals and poultry. Post mortem observations in the birds brought for diagnostic purpose at Poultry Disease Diagnosis and Surveillance Laboratory, VC & RI, Namakkal revealed death of birds due to heat stroke and respiratory tract infections. Follow summer management in poultry farms and adopt bio-security measures as per veterinary advice. Special Agroadvisory from Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Namakkal: Control white fly attack in tapioca crops by spraying Triazophos at the rate of 1 ml/lit of water during the evening hours. THIRUCHIRAPALLI & NAGAPATTINAM TANJAVORE & THIRUVARUR Imp. Crops: Rice, Sugarcane, Banana and Cotton Rice fallow Pulses- Harvest Stage , Rice fallow cotton- Vegetative stage In rice fallow cotton , one hand weeding has to be given on 45 DAS after 3 days top dressing fertilizer along with earthing up. In rice fallow cotton, occurrence of aphid, thrips, mite, hoppers and white flies are being noticed due to the prevailing hot weather. To control this spray Azadirachtin 0.03% (3 ml/L) along with sticking agent in the morning or evening using hand sprayer, If Damage is more spray imidacloprid 200 SL @ 40 ml/acre with 200 lit of water This period is the optimum time of sowing for summer season blackgram and ADT 5 black gram variety is more suitable in this region . Livestock Calves above 3 months and sheep and goat above 2 months should be vaccinated against Foot and Mouth disease Sprinkling of water on mulching cows in every two hours between 10 a.m to 5.p.m to sustain the milk production ARIYALUR &PEREMBALUR Imp. crops: Rice, Sugarcane, Banana and Sesame Sesame: Sowing and vegetative stage. In sesame crop, give one pre-flowering irrigation on 25 days after sowing, One at flowering and one or two at pod setting. Irrigation at flowering period is critical. Farmers are advice to take up sowing of forage grasses. Since very light rainfall is expecting, based on crop stage and soil moisture irrigation can be planned. Since rainfall is expected is better to delay the spraying of pesticides and insecticides, especially on 14th & 15th April. In Chillies and Tomato crops, since they are at flowering stage spray growth regulator NAA@10 mg per liter of water to improve the flower retention. VIRUTHUNAGAR ,THIRUNELVELI ,&THOOTHUKUDI Crop/ Farming system Cotton Stage / Activities Advisories Maturity After final picking of kapas slash the cotton crop residues by using stage rotoslasher. Addition of crop residues will help to improve organic matter content of the soil and conserve rain water. Mango Flowering For inducing flowering spray urea 5 g/ l or potassium nitrate 10 g/ l stage and for increasing fruit retention spray NAA 20 ppm (20 mg/ l) and again potassium nitrate 20 g/ l at the stage of mustard size. Brinjal Flowering and Spray triacontanol 2 ppm plus sodium borate or borax 35 mg/ l of fruiting stage water at the time of full bloom to increase the yield. SMS: Rain: April 11th-15th: 2, 2, 7, 15& 15 mm, respectively.
