The Roosevelt

BOX TOPS for
EDUCATION. This is a
free and easy activity
that all families can
participate in by
simply saving the box
tops and sending them
to school with your
child (ren). Each
classroom has a
collection container in
order to keep track of
how many are turned
in.
Roosevelt Elementary

We are beginning our North Dakota State Assessments October 22nd in grades 3-6. This is
the test that determines if Roosevelt makes AYP, or annual yearly progress. It is part of No
Child Left Behind. Last year Roosevelt Elementary was one of only four (4) Bismarck
schools who made AYP. It is something we should all be very proud of.
Children may experience academic difficulties at some point in their educational career.
Most difficulties can be resolved with effective instructional practices. Sometimes more
specific strategies are needed to improve student performance and prevent further
difficulty. These are sometimes referred to as interventions. Interventions are provided in
addition to – not instead of – classroom instruction. These interventions may be provided
by the classroom teacher, a reading specialist, an instructional assistant, or a special
education teacher. Using materials designed for intervention, students may receive one or
more of the following: extended learning time, smaller learning groups, and more explicit
instruction. By closely monitoring student progress, adjustments in instruction can be made
to support the child in becoming more successful.
At Roosevelt Elementary when the data indicates the need for intervention, your child’s
teacher will contact you via phone call or e-mail.
Thanks for everything you do.

Math: We have been working on finding the range, mode, and median in graphs. We have
also done a lot of analyzing graph information using the program Excel on the computers.
Finding the multiples and factors of numbers are helping us to solve four clue-number
puzzles. As a part of math, we do a daily calendar. There is this cash register that we do.
This is where we get electronic money for each day of the month. We get to multiply that
day by a number. If we make a million dollars by the end of the year, we get to dress up with
gems and pretend to be millionaires.
Language Arts: We have been working on schema to help us read and write. We have also
been doing a lot of journal entries. Journal entries are when we get a question and we have
to answer it.
Technology: We have also used technology to make an Edmodo account. On this account we
are able to connect with friends and turn in written assignments to our teacher. We were
very lucky because we learned on the first day of school that our classroom won a set of
“NBs” these are netbooks. Now everyone in the class has their own NB!
