Unit 1 Academic Development
Throughout the School Year
Essential Question: Why is it important for students to acquire the attitudes, knowledge, and
skills that contribute to effective learning in school and across the
life span?
Learning Targets
1. The students will articulate feelings of competence and confidence as learners. (WI A4.1.1,

2. The students will learn to accept mistakes and take responsibility as essential components to
the learning process. (WI A4.1.3, A4.3.1, ASCA A:A1.4, A:A3.1)
3. The students will identify attitudes and behaviors which lead to successful learning and

4. The students will use communication skills to share knowledge and seek information or
support from faculty, staff, family, and community helpers when needed for problem-solving

Unit 2 Personal/Social Development Throughout the School Year
Essential Question: What knowledge, attitudes, and interpersonal skills do students need to
help them understand to respect self and others, make healthy
decisions, set and achieve goals, and stay safe?
Learning Targets
1. The students will develop positive attitudes toward self as a unique and worthy
person by identifying personal values, attitudes, and beliefs. (WI D4.1.1, ASCA

2. The students will recognize that everyone has rights and responsibilities with regard
to personal boundaries and privacy needs and that rules and laws protect individual

Unit 3 Career Development Throughout the School Year
Essential Question:
Why is it important for students to acquire the skills necessary to
investigate the world of work in relation to knowledge of self and
others?
Learning Targets
1. The students will develop an awareness of personal abilities, skills, interest, and motivations
and provide examples of positive personal characteristics. (WI G4.1.1-2, ASCA C:A1.3)
2. The students will learn how to develop and action plan to set realistic goals. (WI A4.1.2,

3. The students will acquire employability skills such as working on a team, problem-solving
