Cardiovascular Grand Rounds Presenter: M. Grattan
Title of Presentation: Aortic Root Dilation – The Silent Killer…..
Learning Objectives:
1. To recognize the importance of aortic root and ascending aorta dilation in the pediatric population.
2. To review common pediatric disorders associated with aortic root and ascending aortic dilation.
3. To discuss recent research on bicuspid aortic valve associated aortopathy.
Adult Congenital Cardiac Surgery Rounds - Videoconference from Toronto
Cases & Learning Objectives:
Case 1 – Dr. Oechslin Dx: Cor triatriatum sunistrum. To review cath, echo, MRI and TEE. Management planning.
Case 2 – Dr. Roche Dx: Post Mustard repair of TGA with 2 subsequent baffle revisions. Mild LV dysfunction, moderate RV
dysfunction. Generally asymptomatic. To review echo, cath and cardiac CT. Management planning.
Case 3 – Hamilton Dx: Repaired DORV and AVSD. Severe PR and moderate PS. RPA stenosis. Down syndrome. To review
echo, CT scan, cath and EST. Surgical referral.
Case 4 – Dr. Wald Dx: Kawasaki disease with giant aneurysm in LMS/LAD. Probable RCA stenosis or occlusion with stress
perfusion defect. To review cath, echo, MRI and CT scan. Management planning.
Case 5 – Dr. Wald Dx: SIP Yasui procedure for aortic atresia, VSD, hypoplastic arch (1991). Residual conduit obstruction.
Coartaction of the aorta SIP stent (2012). PV stenosis post Coles procedure. LCx to LA fistula. Recurrent syncope. To review
cath, echo, MRI, CT scan and CP study. Surgical referral.
Case 6 – Dr. Silversides Dx: Surgically repaired partial AVSD. Residual small ASD at the level of septum primum. Progressive
SOB. To review cath, echo, CT scan, EST and CP study. Management planning.
Case 7 – Dr. Silversides Dx: Ebstein anomaly of the tricuspid valve. Bioprosthetic tricuspid valve with moderate to severe TR.
Bi-directional Glenn anastomosis. Patch closure of ASD with subsequent fenestration. Right atrial maze procedure. PSVT.
To review echo, CT scan and CP study. Surgical referral.
