Cicero Lupus Period 2 What am I? I exist. How do I know? Well, if I didn’t exist, the last two sentences couldn’t have existed. If I didn’t exist, I can’t refer to myself as “I”. Also, there would be nothing writing this paper. The simple fact that I am writing this proves that I am, in fact, part of existence. If I didn’t exist, you, the reader, couldn’t exist either, since what you are reading wouldn’t have existed. You, in fact, would be reading nothing at all, with only the illusion of this paper in your head. Since this paper and text is obviously NOT an illusion, I have to exist Another point proving my existence is what experiences I have had. Anything I have used my senses to detect; anything I have seen, anything I have touched, anything I have smelled, tasted, or heard would not actually exist if I had heard them. Other people use these senses to detect things as well. If I was not in existence, anyone who has ever seen, touched, smelled, tasted, or heard what I have would not be either. Then, anyone that has experienced what that person has experienced wouldn’t exist either. Since everyone has experienced at least one sense that some other person has, that would mean no one would exist. If no one existed, wouldn’t that mean that everyone existed? What I mean is that if none of us were truly here, but we all are connected to each other (I know someone, who knows someone, who knows someone, etc.), then we truly are in existence. Our perception of reality would be that it is indeed, real, so therefore it IS real. For, if it weren’t, no one would be on this Earth. The dictionary definition of exist is to have objective reality or being. The idea of not “existing” can’t exist. Even if I say I don’t exist, and follow the same argument as the previous paragraph, and say nothing exists, things have to exist. If nothing exists, what is existence in the first place? Even if none of us exist, we experience common senses, common ideas, common events. If that isn’t existing, then the definition is wrong. That is why I exist.
