Films shows to increase awareness on environmental issues
The above report card is based on the following tasks which were carried out as
part of GSP
WEEK-1 (7th Oct’13 to 11Oct’13)
CLASS IX
TASK 1
TITLE: --------Briefing Session of the Students On Green School Programme
DATE:-------- 11.10.2013
LEARNING OBJECTIVE:--------- We know that environmental challenges are growing;
we also know that the challenge, however enormous, will need each one of us to get
involved. It will need us to change the way we manage natural resources; alter our
consumption patterns so that we can do more with less; and innovate with current
technologies so that we can improve the environment around us through GSP- Land.
EXPLANATION:------- Students were given explaination about Green school
Programme. The objective of the programme was to explian Why we need G.S.P? Our
school’s ground can provide excellent educational opportunities for creation
awareness about land resources and the natural world around us.
LEARNING OUT COMES:------ To critically analyse the importance of green area of our
school. Original and rational outlook and students were able to realise the need to
maintain land resources.
TASK 1-Choose our land and biodiversity audit team
Distribution of the class in various groups for various Task ahead
TASK 2
TITLE: -------- What is the percentage of green area in our school?
DATE:-------- 11.10.2013
LEARNING OBJECTIVE:--------- To understand the land use pattern we must first find
out the total land area available to our school.
EXPLANATION:--------- TO COLLECT DATA: Students will need to measure all green
space available in our school. Constructed area of the school is approx. 2.75 acres.
Green area is about 0.7 acres and Unconstructed area 2.05 acres
Total area is 3.25 acres
LEARNING OUTCOME:-------- The GSP acts as a tool to explore, identify & document
the living resources which exist within the school premises. The audit process helps
the school community to draw up a roadmap for sustainable use of its land. The total
land area is 13,153 sq. mts.
Find out the percentage of green area.
GREEN AREA=Total green area in sq. meters x 100 x 0.10
33% of total sq. meters
The points scored for green area are = _6.52_

TASK 3
TITLE: -------- How much land area is covered by trees at Shalom Hills International
School?
DATE:-------- 29.10.2013
LEARNING OBJECTIVE:--------- We already know how much green area our school
has. Now find out how much of the total green area covered by trees. Ideally 11 % of
the total area of the school should be under tree cover.
EXPLANATION:-------
Students were explained about the tree canopy area.
LEARNING OUT COMES:------ The green area in our school is important because on
one hand it minimizes the effects of air pollution and on the other it gives
opportunity to explore the local species of plants.
CALCULATE OUR POINTS
Tree canopy area x 100 x 0.10
Total land area/ 9
The points tree canopy area are=6.16

WEEK-1 (1st Nov’13 to 15 Nov’13)
CLASS IX
TASK 4
TITLE: -------- What is the per capita constructed and field area?
DATE:-------- 15.11.2013
LEARNING OBJECTIVE:--------- The total constructed area can be sourced from the
building construction plan of the school which will be available in our school office.
EXPLANATION:------- Measure the constructed spaces and use the formula for
calculating areas of various shapes to derive the data and add them all.
LEARNING OUT COMES:------ Total number of students in our school=1941
Built up area= Total built up area / Total number of students
Build up area per student= (2.75 / 1941)= 0.0014 acres
Playfield per student= Total area of the playfield / Total number of students
Playfield per student= (0.75/1941=)0.00038 acres
TOTAL POINTS SCORED =17
