The interactive discussions conducted during the training programme enable the teachers to identify ways of administering green schools' audit to students in their school. The training programme also introduces teachers to environmental issues and helps them gain a new perspective to environment education in school. Participants to be exposed to the environment related issues through lectures/ interactive classroom sessions, practical sessions, assignments and exercises based on Green Schools Programme manual. It will need us to change the way we manage natural resources; alter our consumption patterns so that we can do more with less; and innovate with current technologies so that we can improve the environment around us through GSP- Land. EXPLANATION:------- Students were given explaination about Green school Programme.The objective of the programme was to explian Why we need G.S.P? Our school’s ground can provide excellent educational opportunities for creation awareness about land resources and the natural world around us. LEARNING OUT COMES:------ To critically analyse the importance of green area of our school. Original and rational outlook and students were able to realise the need to maintain land resources. DATE:-------- 11.10.2013 LEARNING OBJECTIVE:--------- To understand the land use pattern we must first find out the total land area available to our school. EXPLANATION:--------- TO COLLECT DATA: Students will need to measure all green space available in our school. Constructed area of the school is approx. 2.75 acres. Green area is about 0.7 acres and Unconstructed area 2.05 acres Total area is 3.25 acres LEARNING OUTCOME:-------- The GSP acts as a tool to explore, identify & document the living resources which exist within the school premises. The audit process helps the school community to draw up a roadmap for sustainable use of its land. The total land area is 13,153 sq. mts. Find out the percentage of green area. DATE:-------- 29.10.2013 LEARNING OBJECTIVE:--------- We already know how much green area our school has. Now find out how much of the total green area covered by trees. Ideally 11 % of the total area of the school should be under tree cover. EXPLANATION:------- Students were explained about the tree canopy area. LEARNING OUT COMES:------ The green area in our school is important because on one hand it minimizes the effects of air pollution and on the other it gives opportunity to explore the local species of plants. EXPLANATION:------- Measure the constructed spaces and use the formula for calculating areas of various shapes to derive the data and add them all. Identify the various species of plants and animals in our school. EXPLANATION:------- Two teams of students collected information for plant species. LEARNING OUT COMES:------ Students will get awareness about the total number of plants the land supports is=1445 The total number of animals that the land supports is=Nil TASK 6 TITLE: -------- Does our school use pesticides? Which ones? DATE:-------- 27.11.2013 LEARNING OBJECTIVE:--------- The school must completely stop the use of banned pesticides. EXPLANATION:------- The quantity of pesticides being used must be reduced and replaced by bio-pesticides like neem & turmeric powder.
