KURSKAYA KORENSKAYA FAIR!
Every summer in the ninth Friday after Easter the streets of the ancient city of Kursk are filled with
chimes. In these days a religious procession with ”The Virgin of the Sign” Kurskaya – Korennaya
wonderworking icon is held on Kursk land. The shrine, accompanied by the clergy and pilgrims goes to the place
of its appearance - Korennaya pustyn.
The religious procession, bell ringing, prayers, that all preceded Kursk Korenskaya Fair, the first mention
of which dates back to the 18th century. The Fair was praised by the poet Athanasyi Fet and by the writer
Vladimir Giljarovsky, who used to visit that commercial realm.
But the Fair knew not only fame. XX century, filled with tempestuous events, broke a habitual passage of
time and the Fair, famous formerly, was crossed out of the history for 125 years. But in September 2001 Kursk
Korenskaya Fair reasserted itself. The idea of its revival as Southern trade gates of Russia, belonged to the
Governor Alexander Mikhailov. The initiative was supported by large enterprises and businessmen, clergy and
common citizens.
16 years passed from that moment. And now, we can say with pride that the Fair has the absolute support
of the leadership of CFD, it has gained popularity not only in many regions of Russia, but also in CIS and far
abroad countries. Obviously, the Fair brings tangible economic benefits to Kursk people and guests, giving
impetus to the development of international partnerships.
Because of its size and large scale, Korenskaya Fair is called now one of the main commercial grounds of our
state. Here the representatives of government, business, community and clergy gather together, and their
thoughts, consolidated efforts for the prosperity of the country are combined. Korenskaya Fair is also a
demonstration of the economic viability of not only the individual regions, but of the entire nations. Last year the
Fair was attended by officials and business delegation of more than 40 Russian regions, 20 countries of CIS and
foreign countries, including Angola, Belarus, Bulgaria, Vietnam, Hungary, Germany, Israel, Iraq, Italy,
Kazakhstan, Lithuania, Moldova, Poland, Serbia, Slovakia, Ukraine, the Czech Republic, Estonia.
Business atmosphere always prevails in the fair pavilions. Here the achievements and innovations in
industry, agriculture and many other spheres are presented by both large companies and small and medium
business. The banks and insurance companies, educational and science institutions also present their products
there. One can often see there completely exclusive things, but the most important thing is that you can establish
new business contacts and find a business associate here.
On the results of the meetings and negotiations tens of agreements, protocols and contracts in different
spheres of economics are signed.
But the Fair is not the place for only business communications. Holiday atmosphere reigns here from the
first until the last day - amateur artists sing and dance on the scenes, clowns entertain guests. After all, the Fair
has always been and it still remains the place of recreation, entertainment and useful purchases for common
people.
