Discussion with champions a. How many times? b. What are the major comments/conclusion from the discussion In the last month, the PI and Co-PI have discussed the progress of the research project with champion Dr. Yen-Kuang Chen on May 15. Also, they talked about the content that will be reported in the next F2F meeting. 3. Progress between last month and this month a. b. c. Summary of key findings and innovation, and/or Negative results and their consequences, and/or Cross-project synergy In the last month, we have maintained the operation of all the M2M devices (WSN & WiFi-based cameras) that were deployed during Phased-II in order to completely collect all the sensing data and growth images of orchids. Meanwhile, we have developed a new image identification algorithm to identify the morphological traits of orchids, e.g. leaf width, leaf height, leaf area, etc. It’s difficult to achieve the purpose of identifying these traits accurately due to the noisy background in the images. Currently, we have a new strategy to make it better and almost successful cope with the problem. With such traits related to the growth condition of orchids, we can infer the relationship between the growing environment and growth quality of orchids by data mining technology. 4. Brief plan for the next month a. Updated view of planned milestones, deliverables, and success criteria In the next month, we will keep developing the image recognition algorithms used to identify the morphological traits of orchids as well as improving the recognition accuracy as well as mining the knowledge behind the data. We expect such outcome related to the knowledge mining is presented in the next F2F meeting in August. On the other hand, the greenhouse project team members will also prepare the demo in the NTU event on June 13. 5. Research byproducts a. Papers b. Talks (invitation received and given), and others NTU PI: Prof. Joe-Air Jiang, NTU Co-PI: Dr. Ryan (Chia-Pang) Chen Intel Champion: Dr. Yen-Kuang Chen and Dr. Richard Chuang The greenhouse team is invited to demonstrate the M2M-based remote monitoring systems of pests and automated greenhouse systems to the visitors from Brazil during May 26-29 in south Taiwan. On June 5, the PI and Co-PI also joined the cooperation meeting with Dr. CK Tsen, Dr. Hannes, and Dr. Richard Chuang holed by ICCCC.
